On the field, it’s been a perfect marriage. Watson began his career in the mid-1980s as an assistant at the University of Illinois under West Coast offense guru Mike White, who also had future NFL coaches Bill Callahan and Brad Childress on staff. At Louisville, Watson installed the same pro-style West Coast offense. While other college quarterbacks are looking to the sideline for their on-field adjustments, Bridgewater does it all by himself.

“I gave him the keys to the car as a sophomore,” said Watson, who has been a coach for 32 years. “I had never done that before.”

Bridgewater has vast responsibility at the line of scrimmage. First there is the kill system. Two or three plays are called in the huddle. Depending on the defense, Bridgewater has the ability to “kill” the first play, and run one of the others. It’s solely Bridgewater’s decision.

Bridgewater also has an audible system at his disposal, with the same goal as every good NFL system: stay out of bad plays. If the play Watson has called has little chance of success against a particular defense, Bridgewater can change the play entirely at the line of scrimmage.

Finally, Bridgewater redirects the offensive line protections by either identifying the middle linebacker in man-to-man protections, or directing the slide one way or the other in zone.

It's all about the combine and interviews. I think that Bortles is too flawed to roll the dice on with a number one pick.

The Texans don't need a whole lot. They should just draft Clowney and trade as many picks as they need to to draft a QB if they need one by then. It's rare that such a talented team gets the first pick. They shouldn't act desperate.

They actually have quite a few needs. More Oline depth, more ILB's, more DB's(Joseph may become a cap casualty), more RB's(Tate is history), etc. They have take a shot at a QB with the first pick...whether it's Bridgewater or someone else. It's far from a sure thing, but neither is Clowney and they've been burned already going with a supposed can't miss prospect on the DL with the first overall pick.

I think anyone who passes on Bridgewater will regret doing so for the rest of their life. He literally throws some of the most amazing passes I have ever seen, and with ease. His accuracy is second to no one in this draft. You can't coach accuracy. He throws a great deep ball, has arm strength. Has shown he is very smart and makes great decisions. Handles audibles and play calling duties. Yet people are afraid of him. And why? Because of his size? Because he is slim? He has a small frame? This is modern day NFL, you can't even sneeze on a QB anyway. Besides, Bridgewater will bulk up, he will never be big. But he will put on more mass, more muscle. He will be fine. The inside blitz is what would kill Drew...funny you bring up the Philly D b/c I was at the game where Drew's career took a precipitous drop from that point on: a 2003 home game vs. the Eagles (Brian Westbrook's breakout game)...it was painful to watch. He used to be a boss though and threw one of the prettiest deep balls.

Bledsoe was a gambler but his arm was so goddamn awesome he could get away with it. While I'm sure there's been more talented guys, I personally (and blinded by homerism i know) have never seen a more dynamic and impressive arm than Bledsoe's. The way he could effortlessly zip balls into tight windows or drive it downfield was amazing to watch.

As mentioned, his biggest problem was decision making under pressure. He was actually sneaky athletic like Peyton, but even more reluctant to take off and run. And he was a notorious ball patter. He ALWAYS wanted to make the big throw downfield and would ignore his checkdowns even when under a heavy rush. He'd pat the ball like crazy and then take a big risk downfield. Thats the biggest reason Bill benched him for Brady permanently. Brady wouldn't hesitate to checkdown while Drew always forced a downfield throw or took a bad sack instead.

He's the opposite of Romo because he always played like that and was never scared to sling it. He played QB in clutch situations the exact same as he played in the 1st quarter of Week 1. Meanwhile Romo seems to have a knack for playing great in nonpressure situations then fearfully changing his style and going away from what works whenever he feels pressure. Both approaches resulted in alot of interceptions but I don't see how Bledsoe's approach could really be classified as "choking".

this is pretty much all that needs to be said about Bledsoe. not sure if i'm allowed to comment about him, since he spent the bulk of his career on the Pats. he was pretty much everything that Rob Johnson wanted to be and was supposed to become. Except Johnson was an even more notorious "ball patter" or as some say, he tried to burp the football like a baby. Johnson didn't have the arm Bledsoe had. few did, but he always held the ball too damn long and had no mobility.

Bledsoe could have had a better career than he ultimately did. that first year on Buffalo he was an absolute flamethrower

As a Longhorns fan, I have lost a lot of respect for Young since he has left Texas. He talked a lot of crap about Houston for not taking him yet he has done nothing to show they should have...while the player they did take wound up with 14 sacks last year and started the season on the same tear yesterday.

I think Manziel has more upside than Vince had and I think he's got a legit shot at some success eventually. I just don't think he's the guy for Houston. He would really be better served sitting out a season or so learning the QB postion at the pro level. That won't happen though.
