Not bad club tracks/car tracks, but nothing special. Don't Phunk With My Heart is disgraceful.

What does help them is watching there video clips with the music, Fergie is wow.

Fergie is a nasty looking chick. Pure hood rat if you ask me. Which nobody did.

What kind of music would you call Black Eyed Peas? Is it funk that's a little bit hip-hop?

Pop/Hip Hop/Club Banger type music.

They rely a lot on creating a sound that makes you want to dance and move, probably because they were originally a break dancing group. Fergie isn't a great singer, and none of the male rappers are particuly good. They aren't really original despite being hard to categorise, which is strange. Before they became really popular they were a little more hip hop though.

OutKast is much different than Black Eyed Peas. I'm not talking about the newer commercial OutKast, but old OutKast. timvp has liked OutKast for many, many years before they got popular. That's why MI21 referenced it.

I used to come when I had a live-in babysitter, but now I'm not so lucky. Plus my old ass can't hang at work without enough sleep.

It's bad enough getting woken up when he gets home.

I've been trying to do it the right way and was using iTunes to PAY to put music on my iPod and burn CD's. I just found out the hard way that anything I BUY from iTunes I can't put on any other mp3 player (ie: my new phone) so I'm pissed. Napster ended up doing the same thing with their downloads.

So, they are making me pirate the songs.... :flipoff

WinMX has been fucking up pretty bad so I'm having a hard time downloading everything I already BOUGHT on iTunes....so I was going to try Limewire later. :fro

If IRCC, I tunes has some sort of code so you can only transfer it once. I remember that 2Blonde was asking about that (she was trying to transfer from one iPod to another). I asked Bob about that also and he said that was true.

I don't know about transfers, Chris mentioned something about that I think...but there are several songs I've put on quite a few CD's already and it hasn't been an issue.

When I try to transfer the songs to my phone (non-iPod related), it won't do it. So fuck them and their iPod-centric bullshit. I hate that stupid thing anyway. :lol

I love my mini Ipod but screw i-tunes, there's no way in hell i'm gonna pay a buck a song when i can get it free and be able to transfer it anywhere.

I've used Limewire for over a year and it's been pretty good to me.

Do the songs transfer to your iPod?

Slomo

You can transfer any mp3 file to your iPod. The only exception are the songs you buy through the iTunes shop (they have a copy protection bit activated that allows you to transfer it to only one iPod).

For all other functions (like ripping CDs) and other stuff iTunes is quite good.

What I think is weird is that your phone is "obeying" the copy protection of the iTunes shop - I wonder how it works...

Now that I think about it, you're right (d'uh)...I transfered my whole library to iTunes when I got my iPod. Only a few wouldn't transfer for whatever reason...

I don't know....I drag them to the media folder (on the memory card) ... they show up there, but if you mouse over them it says in the song info "protected". I put the memory card in my phone and when I go to the media player and it lists the songs on file, the iTunes (protected) ones don't show up.

This is my phone (http://store.yahoo.com/landofmusic2002/samsungmma800.html)

Beside the obvious question: Is the file format supported by your phone? I think it must be some sort of industry standard so that a phone by Samsung complies with the copy protection of Apple. What format are the songs you buy on-line from Apple? mp3?

File format

Songs are encoded using FairPlay (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=FairPlay&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a)-encrypted 128 kbit/s AAC (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Advanced+Audio+Coding&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) streams in a mp4 (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=MPEG-4+Part+14&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) wrapper, using the .m4p extension. In practice, the sound quality is comparable to songs encoded at 160 kbit/s using MP3 or 128 kbit/s using Microsoft's Windows Media Audio WMA (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Windows+Media+Audio&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) format.

While licenses to the AAC compression and the mp4 file format are readily available, Apple has yet to allow their proprietary FairPlay encrytion scheme to be licensed to other hardware manufacturers, so only Apple's QuickTime and iPod can play AAC files encrypted with Apple's FairPlay (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=FairPlay&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) technology. Motorola (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Motorola&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) is reportedly working on a phone with a special version of iTunes to play songs downloaded from the iTunes Music Store, but details on this have yet to be finalized.

Digital rights management

Apple's FairPlay (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=FairPlay&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) Digital rights management (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Digital+rights+management&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) (DRM) is integrated into iTunes, which manages songs purchased from iTunes Music Store. Users are not allowed unlimited CD burns of individual songs, or to play the songs on more than five computers within 24 hours. But they are allowed to copy the songs to an unlimited amount of iPods.

With the introduction of iTunes 4.5, Apple raised the number of machines allowed to use purchased music from 3 to 5. They also cut the number of times a user can burn CDs of the same playlist from 10 to 7. This adjustment was the result of the renegotiation Apple had with major labels. In 4.7.1, users were further restricted: they were limited to sharing their songs with five computers within 24 hours, rather than the previous five at a time.

*Apple FairPlay technology, however, is not unbreakable. A user can, for example, convert protected files to unprotected MP3 format by burning them to an audio CD, then ripping them back to iTunes. This method, however, reduces the sound quality of the recording. Software (http://www.tech-recipes.com/windows_tips842.html) (http://www.tech-recipes.com/windows_tips842.html) has emerged that can remove Apple's FairPlay DRM, allowing the files to be used without technological restriction.

Fairplay keeps iTunes customers from using the purchased music on any portable digital music player other than the Apple iPod. On January 3, 2005, an iTunes online music store customer sued Apple Computer, alleging the company broke antitrust laws by freezing out competitors (iTunes Lawsuit (http://news.com.com/Lawsuit+claims+Apple+violates+law+with+iTunes/2100-1027_3-5514244.html?tag=cd.top) (http://news.com.com/Lawsuit+claims+Apple+violates+law+with+iTunes/2100-1027_3-5514244.html?tag=cd.top)).

In March 2005 (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=March+2005&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a), Jon Johansen (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=Jon+Lech+Johansen&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) ("DVD Jon") released a program called PyMusique (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=PyMusique&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) ([9] (http://fuware.nanocrew.net/pymusique/) (http://fuware.nanocrew.net/pymusique/)) that allowed iTMS customers to purchase songs without DRM (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=DRM&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) restrictions. On 21 March (http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery;jsessionid=3r0htnrtesetf?method=4&dsid=2222&dekey=March+21&gwp=8&curtab=2222_1&sbid=lc01a) Apple blocked access to the iTMS with PyMusique. A day later, Jon wrote in his "So Sue Me" post (http://www.nanocrew.net/blog/apple/itms47.html) (http://www.nanocrew.net/blog/apple/itms47.html): "The iTunes Music Store recently stopped supporting iTunes versions below 4.7 in an attempt to shut out 3rd party clients. I have reverse engineered the iTMS 4.7 crypto which will once again enable 3rd party clients to communicate with the iTMS."
