...threads posted (just scroll down), the Spurs still have the best record out West two months into the season.

Some of you guys have bitching down to an art and I mean a terrible form of art at that.

This is the effect that 6 had on people. I think everyone is just ready for it to be the playoffs again.

I hope that same mentality hasn't struck the team. They seem to have a problem bringing the proper focus and intensity sometimes, which is not helped by Pop's manic rotations and a few key players slumping.

Still, the Spurs are right on track for where they want to be at this time of the season, and still have plenty of time to improve, which might concern the rest of the West considering the Spurs already sit atop it.

record is nice, but i already knew the spurs can beat up on mediocre teams.
what i dont know and they havent proven yet is whether or not they can pull it out in a tight situation against their peers

There is something missing from this Spurs team that they had last year, but I just can't tell what it is. They just can't seem to secure a defensive stop when they need it like they could in the past 2 seasons. Its not like they are a bad defensive team either, but when they need to stop the bleeding they can't seem to do it which is concerning.

Its hard to pinpoint where the problem is though. Obviously Duncan's a year older and a little slower, Parker looks lethargic and uninterested at times, Danny Green has been up and down more than usual. Some maybe its a collective problem of several factors but its worrisome given the several occasions in which the spurs have squandered sizable leads or let games get out of hand early and have had to battle back. There is definitely time to hone the defense over the next couple of months and that is usually the plan, especially come the rodeo road trip, but if their current style of play continues into the playoffs they probably won't be getting very far.

All that being said, the Spurs are still better than 90% of the league which we should all be grateful for, especially given how heavily we lean on a 37 year old for our success (look at the KG on the Nets, Kobe in streetclothes). Whether the team is coasting or broken it has shown it can win the games it should win (with the exception of NYK) and is a virtual lock for the playoffs. Just a matter of how they are playing once they start.

how is our record vs. the top teams brah?

don't get me wrong, sure the Spurs could reach the WCF again, but that's because the NBA league is shit. Not because they are a great team. Spurs have lots of flaws, just so happens most of the rest of the league has bigger flaws.

And the Heat had no flaws last year?

They had Manu. Oh wait.

I've said before and in other threads that the noticeable difference in intensity this year in Parker's attitude toward the other team members during games is the biggest difference in the season, so far.

Last year Parker was in everyone's face every play, fussing at them, telling where to go and what to do, correcting them when they did something wrong, and this year he is not only relatively lethargic regarding his own play, I haven't seen him take the same level of leadership in one game as he did last year on a regular basis.

I don't know what the difference is...but I don't honestly think it is fatigue on Tony's part. Fatigue wouldn't account for what appears to be aloofness from Tony toward all the other team members.

I think we are missing a floor leader this year, and I don't know who will step up. Tim has never been comfortable in that role, and last year he was happy to give it to Tony. If Tony doesn't take it on, I don't know who will. Manu has never taken that role and there is no one else on the team other than those three who has the respect of the rest of the team to do it, imo.

Hombre he didn't say the Heat didn't have flaws. Check argument before posting a snide reply. They've already started pruning the idiots e.g. PlayNando so don't be surprised if your kind gets purged next.

No. Obviously you don't get it. He's giving a team with flaws (spurs) a chance to make it to the WCF and no further, yet my argument is a another team with flaws (heat) won the championship. Doesn't add up. Oh and comparing me to "playnando"? And warning me of being banned from a basketball forum? I should be scared right? My life would be over. Please.

The Spurs are more flawed. How does that sound?

His contention may be flawed, but he didn't say that the Heat were without flaws, which you think he said. Your argument (ensconced in a question) says that he explicitly posited the Heat were without flaws, and that's the problem right there.

it isn't so much about getting booted out of a basketball forum but more about using flawed logic to pick cat fights in a basketball forum. Keep it classy.

FYI I've got no reputation of picking "cat fights". I'm done here.

I was thinking of post the same thread earlier today. Only one team in the whole damn NBA has a better record (Pacers) and the number of threads about how bad we are and how our players (take your pick) are washed up is disgraceful. I can't believe this is a pro Spurs website sometimes.
