View Full Version : Lakers: Will Kobe give up the team to Jabari or Wiggins

Do you lakerfans really believe that if you end up with a top lottery talent like Jabari or Wiggins that Kobe would actually give up being the number 1 guy on the Lakers? I'm curious because I just don't see Kobe deferring to these guys like David did for Duncan. Most likely I see only 2 possible scenarios playing out. One is Kobe will sabotage the development of these kids by using his power to limit how involved they can be in the offense. The other scenario I see happening is that a civil war will take place between Kobe and the new kid which will divide the Lakers organization.
Lol they'd trade a 1st overall pick for Melo in an instant. In a fucking instant. LA doesn't develop guys.

lol wont even allow the mental midget like d12 to be focus of the laker team when they had him
what makes you think his going step aside for a rookie who hasnt paid their dues
seriously lottery pick guys are better off going to a rebuilding team then on some stacked team thats already in position to contend, cause they will never have the same opportunities of playing time to develop into reaching that potential...look at darko and kawhi as an example...seems like kawhi is either stagnant with his growth atm or going backwards as long the big 3 tosb are still on this team, still doesnt help when u have a ball dominant pg who doesnt like to play the passing game...

Signing Kobe to that contract was like leaving Kool aid man alone in a room filled with 15 year old white girls, its going to end really bad.

They also developed Earl Clark, but only to let him walk elsewhere for bigger bucks :depressed

I see it ending with KidCapri falling into fetal position after being assaulted by a number of little girls.
Papa Stern wont be around by the draft lottery time.

They can't trade the pick though. Otherwise I would have suggested that a while ago. I would have seen a 1st pick trade for Melo to NYK even though he might have been going to LA anyways. Just like that stupid Steve Nash trade.

To OP, I dont think it matters. Kobe has only 2 years left under that large contract. NONE of these kids are even ready to take over a team Day one like Lebron or even Rose.
I get that opposing fans are concerned but even if the Lakers get wiggins and sign Monroe or Melo ...Lakers even if Kobe were healthy ... are still not a legit title contender. So let Kobe enjoy his last twop seasons at the reigns because I dont think these kids are ready to be the saviour for a team like the Lakers too much pressure. Let kobe deal with that for two more years. And tbh I hope they do not sign ANY big names in 2014 and wait out Kobe's last big $ year and attack FA in 2015 I can wait another year and a half of non contention. Lakers should draft their next star and sign small time players around him and Kobe until summer of 2015.

Kobe is sitting on the bench looking at this roster, the list of 2014 FA class. At the end of the other bench, D'Antoni is still coaching the team, ,perhaps extended till next year. So, the outlook looks bleak and cloudy. People keep saying he should take a pay cut but there's NO max free agent that can realistically make the Lakers a contender again. :lol I see the logic of his extension from his end now. He's simply trying to cash out before he hangs them up and I can't blame him for that.

It is true that his extension would mean little to the Lakers in the next 5+ years, they will not have a viable chance to get Lebron - the only upcoming FA who can make a real difference.

Yeah, clearly this is just a stop gap for the Lakers to milk his last 2 years. There's absolutely no realistic goal to contend during Kobe's last term and they all know it.
If there's one thing Kobe should be criticized for, it's his approach in selling a guarantee that he'll get 6 and his quest for it is all that matters, when everyone knows he's full of it.

Imagine if one of them force a trade...I've seen it happen before...can't rememeber the players name though...
"No...I'm not playing with Kobe!!"

Dwight never said that ...and still got booed in Asia. If some rookie did that, actually came out and said it ... would be far worse.

Has there ever been a rookie that demanded a trade? I think it could happen next year.

I remember Steve Francis did on draft night when the Vancouver Grizzlies picked him. He didn't want to play in Canada and broke down crying about how he hated that place.

You need to learn how it's done first, and I can teach you here... I know how to do it and I've learned from the best players who have won multiple times over and over... Instead of trying to do things your way, just listen and learn and tweak it, so it fits you....Now kiss the ring...Good...

That actually would be awesome, If we could get a RGIII type trade by some dumb team that thinks Wiggins is the next Lebron.

I could see it happen with Wiggins, Kirby and Melo would combine for 45 shots a game, the kid will never see the ball.

:lol I knew you were, but I got a feeling if the Lakers get a scorer like Jabari or Wiggins and they also sign Melo, it's gonna be a lot of fighting about who gets shots :lol

at least we would be interesting right now we aint even that. again I am against signing Melo. Not that he is not good ...
Also Wiggins looks like he needs to be ENCOURAGED to shoot.
dont think that would be a problem. Parker however seems to be more ball/shot hungry.

I think Wiggins is not playing at a 100% in College, he's just waiting for the NBA due to all the hype about him in HS, how people said he would have been picked #1 last year. I think once he gets into the league he'll start chucking them.
