Oscar lost its credit years ago, tbh. Popularity among fans is the finest reward for an actor/actress, and our goddess beats anyone in that regard :cry

Goddess being disqualified from Golden Globe nomination was clearly an ominous indicator tbh. I remember when I was in high school our teacher told me one day that I had won a prize in a physics-knowledge competition, I was enchanted at the moment really, even jubilant. I even shrieked "whoa" something like a little bitch, but about a few weeks later I was told I didn't win nothing... it was just too cruel imho, you got really close to glory but in the end someone told you it was just a total dream, like the 13' NBA championship to them Spurs :cry Hope Goddess doesn't feel too upset about this. She's our Goddess and will forever be, and she should know that the love from fans is the finest form of reward for an actor or actress tbh :cry

Saw Nebraska last night--very well written and a great performance from Bruce Dern.

Redford not getting nominated is a travesty. Also nothing for Fruitvale Station is stupid. But i guess black people are only allowed one movie a year, so 12 Years A Slave got all the love.

The Oscars are getting almost as terrible as the Grammys.

Yeah, surprising Redford and Fruitvale Station didn't pick up some nominations. Wonder if FS was a victim of releasing too early in the year to garner much attention. I haven't seen either movie, but I have read good reviews and blogs about these two.

Prisoners should have been nominated for Best Picture and Hugh Jackman, Melissa Leo, Paul Dano, and maybe Terrence Howard should have been nominated.

No love for A Madea Christmas?

No.

But Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa is officially an Oscar nominated film.

I guess a possible reason Her got snubbed was that the film was only recently released, so there was little time for the pundits and fans to really evaluate that film imho (knowing that even I haven't watched that film yet). So how would they nominate a movie for Oscar when they haven't even watched it yet?

Australian goddess and beauty Care Blanchett would have beaten Scarlett anyways, sorry. I still think it's a shame that Hugh Jackman wasn't nominated for Prisoners.

Possibly a reason. I think it has more to do with the voters being old fucks who don't have a clue what is good cinema these days. They don't get the premise of Her and don't feel that its true to the archaic form of nomination that they subscribe. I mean, they've tried to 'modernize' the demographic of the association, but you still only see one black film when there 2 others that were worthy of more recognition. (The Butler and Fruitvale Station). Granted, I haven't seen Her but I will and maybe have a better idea of why they'd snubbed Scarlett.

Her? Seriously? Is that even a movie or just the illusions of a crazy stoner?

Well she's only doing voiceovers. You never see her physically on screen at any time.

Phoenix definitely deserves some love though.

Phoenix was hysterical but a 12 year old could have written a script with more substance...

Films released at the end of the year typically have a better chance of being nominated, not worse. For instance, I'd assume the early release date is one of the reasons Fruitvale Station was ignored; people who saw it have forgotten about it, and the buzz has moved to newer films meaning that fewer people who haven't seen it will find it. That Her, and Johansson's performance, are fresh in everyone's mind should work to its benefit.

I'd imagine the reason Johansson wasn't nominated has more to do with the fact that the actress categories are pretty stacked this year. All of the performances, both lead and supporting, that were nominated have consistently gotten a huge amount of acclaim and most of the actresses have already been nominees/winners in past years. Scarlett's performance, though excellent, is hurt by the fact it's such a break from a traditional lead performance, especially in a year when the Academy has so many of the types of performances it likes to reward to choose from.

Fruitvale Station and The Butler were hurt by early releases. It seems that you have to release around the midpoint or post CGI-summer fest to really get noticed and nominated. The attention span of the Academy is shorter than it used to be and I think that has a lot to do with the amount of movies that are popped out. That, in itself, is something that is at fault with the movie industry. I agree with CF on the SJ observation.

The release date of the film definitely affects its chances at getting Oscar nominations. Mud was a great movie and you could make the argument for some nominations but it was released in May so by the time the voters vote, a movie like Mud has already been forgotten.

Goddess still has to wait a few more years until her lover Rogue writes her a real badass script and win her an Oscar tbh :cry

And it's also good news she did NOT get nominated, in some way. She was only a "firefighter" to take the voice-over job in Her, so such success (albeit Oscarless) was totally unpredicted in the first place. Even the voice character (Samantha) was named after the real actress who was originally employed to play that role. Goddess needs a script specifically designed for herself tbh :cry

I think she got nominated for a critics choice award so cheer up and cheer her on tonight.

True, she also won a prize on Rome film festival for her excellent performance in Her tbh, little is better than none tbh

Yes Fruitvale Station deserved a nomination.

Wallace from the Wire did great in that movie.

:lol at Tom Hanks not getting nominated for his superb performance in Captain Phillips.
:lol at Hugh Jackman not getting nominated for Prisoners.
:lol at Vince Howard from Friday Night Lights for not getting any love for Fruitvale Station, tbh.

Oscar's lost its credibility to me when they went the direction of all artsy fartsy instead of the reality of who the best actors and actresses really are.

watched Her earlier today, actually I only had a glimpse of it spending no more than 20 minutes. Even with that said, that movie still intrigued and impressed me tbh, but I personally think it could've been made even better. Like, they should've put a bit change to the ending... Phoenix finally met with Samantha (portrayed by Goddess of course) in his real life, then end of the film. It would be great if Samantha came into life, tbh. An exquisite appearance of Goddess, even a brief one, would've at least qualified her for a Golden Globe :cry
