Good defense tonight, he looked athletic i say we give him some minutes even if it's in garbage time

Mark your calendars now. The next time you see him play will probably be March 8th vs Orlando.

He was great on the glass, a bench leading 9 rebounds in 14.5 minutes, and contested shots well. You could tell the adrenaline was flowing. Every shot, jumpers and FTs was long. Better long than short, though. Short shots mean scared or nervous.

He is pretty nice defensively. His offensive was off, but he seemed a bit nervous to shoot. Oddly enough, he shot looked good every time.

Looked fine all things considered, but with him; don't make shots, don't play.

I don't think he's a legitimate big. But he may be too slow to be a wing. What else can one expect from an undrafted D-leaguer? I'm curious to see him in more situations, but he's not moving up in the rotation any time soon.

He didn't look slow straight line or laterally to me.

He didn't look slow straight line or laterally to me.not for me, he grabbed a rebound and seemed about to pull the fastbreak, recalled that there was not in the d-league and balked

I liked what he showed. His shot was clearly off but he found a way to contribute big regardless. That is a good sign.

:lol That doesn't mean he's slow, it means he understands that there are better people to run the break than him.

We really need a good rebounder, it depends on Pop, maybe he will forget Thomas tomorrow due to his drunkenness

I think he's agreeing Thomas doesn't look so by saying he was going to show some perimeter skills until he realized he didn't have to do so with the big club.
He seems mobile for a big, but being mobile enough to be a plus defender at the three is another level. I want to see him get that chance. But I understand why he's been bouncing around so much.
There's a reason they gave him a guaranteed contract. Peter Holt's not running a charity here...

Glad to see Thomas finally had a chance to play. Hard worker, good and athletic defender. I just hope Pop realizes there are worse things in the world than have a stretch 4 who can actually defend, instead of Bonner.

The De Colo signing and Bonner extension says otherwise.

Have to see more of him before judging, tbh, you can't really analyze minutes against the worst team in the league:lol..

To be fair.. this was the same night Nando had 13/4/2, Ayres had 13/6, Baynes had 9/6, and Mills had 20/7

I only care about the rebounds and blocks.
The Spurs dont need another scorer.
I like what I saw, didnt look worst than other bench player, no reason for him to not get minutes.

How can you be against someone that can contribute to the team?

Bonner is hitting 47.5% of his 3's. Also both can be packaged in a deal.

His shot will come around as he gets more comfortable.
but what he brings is extreme athleticism and length. something we have lacked for quite sometime. He is a guy that can go get a rebound outside of his area. something we could use also.

We really need a good rebounder, it depends on Pop, maybe he will forget Thomas tomorrow due to his drunkennessI'm not even sure where you're going with this since you didn't actually make a point. Forget Thomas for his lack of rebounding skills? Or forget Thomas to concentrate on finding another rebounding big? Either way you don't make sense since Pop even in his most reserved perception of role requires more than just one attribute to crack the rotation.

I wasn't even worried about that because they were long, meaning, he's just amped up. If they had been short, he'd have been scared or nervous.
Thanks ace3g. I was hoping someone would post that.

Matt Bonner?

01-20-2014, 02:39 PM
Matt Bonner?A fair point but even Bonner has two additional positives going for him that most don't have.
1. He's been in the system for years. There's no growing pains and he's ready to be plugged in at any given moment.
2. He rarely reaches outside his wheel house. Something very few players are capable of accepting.
Now with that said I'm not endorsing Bonner nor suggesting that he's better than any other potential options out there. Just providing you with perspective. I personally wished we would have parted ways with Bonner long ago but I can see why some feel as though he brings value to the team. Especially regular season grinding kind of value. He certainly plugs a hole.

Eh, played well enough to get another look but nothing spectacular. It's like it is with the Spurs and guys like Thomas. People here will overrate him or blame him for loses. Eventually, he'll be let go by the Spurs and get picked up by the Mavs. Rinse..repeat..etc…etc...

He looked very quick and active out there, hopefully he has earned some more chances to play. I would love to see more of this guy.
