View Full Version : Snow/Ice for the Austin/SA area this week?

benefactor

Thursday evening, however, that should change to a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain from west to east across this I-10 corridor into at least southwest Louisiana, including areas from San Antonio to Houston.

As the temperatures fall, at least some ice is expected to build up on bridges and overpasses, especially as moisture from the earlier rainfall freezes up on untreated pavement. This will lead to a potentially hazardous commute Friday morning in these areas.

I doubt anything that comes down will stay at all. It's been too warm lately for anything to stick.

I suspect the city will wet itself after some ice patches form on one random bridge and shut down.

Never get any snow out here. The 1/4 inch it snowed that day in Feb 2010 was the most since the 80s, right?

It's actually sleeting a tiny bit in downtown Austin.

It's been pretty much a steady hard drizzle for the past two hours in Bulverde. From what I understand this is just the beginning. Not really looking forward to the mess this might be once the temp drops to freezing tonight.

We got quite a bit in 2011 as well, but ours was in January.

We got a very light dusting today. Probably snowed for 30 minutes or so and quit.

Decent amount of rain that froze. It's fine just crawling around the highways and frontage roads but people will kill themselves trying to get to work. Interesting there isn't much sand out yet on 183.

It's not too bad out there. I should have used the remote start because my truck doors were frozen shut. All the freeways are closed but if you don't drive like an idiot you can get around fine. I hit ice on a couple of bridges but not bad.

I know 35 is closed in downtown San Antonio. The same 18 wheelers have been parked there by my office since at least 6am when I got there so I can't imagine how far traffic would be backed up by now. I'd be shocked if 35 is open in Austin as well.

Thats true, that too. I have no idea why these people think breaking on ice is a good idea. I go slow and to slow down I use my lower gears, letting the higher engine revs slow me down, only breaking when im at a near complete stop.

Bruh. You should experience SoCal during Storm Watch 20__. Peeps go crazy like the end of the world as we know it is nigh. Fuckers drive like its NYE each and e'ery day and its hilarious. There is a simultaneous lack of control when there is even a hint of sprinkles or light rain out hea.

I have to laugh at people for making fun of San Antonians who suffer in icy weather here, but cry and whine, and even die, when they have 90 degree and above where they live while we have over 100 degrees here all the time.
It's ludicrous.
