View Full Version : With Green and Kawhi out, why hasn't Pop inserted 6'5" Nando De Colo into the lineup?

With Green and Kawhi out for the next few weeks, why hasn't Pop inserted Nando into the lineup. He continues to use 6'3" Cory Joseph, who, in my opinion, has largely underwhelmed in extended minutes. His lack of height makes him an easy matchup for opposing shooting guards and small forwards, his offense is nonexistent and he isn't a natural play maker. In the limited garbage minutes afforded to him, Nando's shown an aggression on the offensive end that we never imagined he was capable of (he had 9 pts against the Hawks and 13 against the Wolves) and his confidence in his own abilities is clearly much higher than it was last season.
Should Nando fill in for Green while he's injured? If not, then what makes Cojo the better fit?

Because Nando is offensively limited. The two games you referenced are like two out of maybe 5 or 6 game where Nando has shown offensive competence. Most of the time, he's a liability.
Granted, Cory has taken 3 steps back this season but even then he's more offensively competent than Nando, and his offensive competence outweighs the fact that he may be a defensive liability against larger opponents. Opponents aren't routinely taking advantage of Cory's height anyways so it's not a problem right now.

Nando was the backup three last night. He did a good job, too.

CIA Pop gonna drop Nando the Destroyer in the playoffs as a secret weapon, tbh.

I alsi thought Joseph played well. He's raw, but I think he's on his way toward getting a pretty diverse skillset. This time is good for him.

he's just way too slow out there and simply not an NBA player. LOL @ THIS: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NANDO-DE-CULO-SAN-ANTONIO-SPURS-8X10-SPORTS-PHOTO-X-/360703541350

Honestly, even if Nando is limited offensively in the LIMITED games he's played, with so many guys missing, now would be the best time to play him. Granted, he's not been that great but then again Baynes has had his struggles and let's face it, Ayres just isn't getting it done consistently (if ever). Now is the time that Nando & Baynes should be seeing a lot of court time. We all ready know how the other guys on the roster play over multiple games but not these two ol' sports.

Nando should play if for no other reason than to increase his trade value. Both detractors and supporters of Nando should want him to play. Who knows? Maybe they're trying to increase CoJo's value for a trade. Not much logic to it otherwise.

I've been wanting to see Nando get more minutes, but if Pop can't figure out what to do with him then they should at least try to showcase him more.

Starting Joseph was a very good move against Hawks. It allowed Pop to put Parker on Williams with Joseph covering Teague. Cory did a really nice job on Teague but it's true that he hurt the offense in the first half with his reluctance to shoot when he was open.

And De Colo wasn't that good outside garbage time but props to him for keep playing hard despite being in a tough situation playing time wise.

They'll play Nando tomorrow and he will get torched. Not his fault though just better players on the heat. But Pop will probably overreact and pull him.

Nah, I've always been a Nando hater. I just think he's been playing well enough to be ahead of Cojo in the rotation.

Fair enough. Honestly you aren't losing too much either way no matter which of the two you play. They've been just about equally effective (or should I say, ineffective).

Giving Nando floor time will NOT increase his trade value. That would be like dragging the ugly girl out into the light.
