So the last few weeks I've been working 75+ hours (13-14 hours every weekday and 10 or so hours over the weekend) and that wouldn't be a big deal except since I've gotten busy as hell at work I haven't been able to sleep at all.

Typically I'll get home around 9:30 and be in bed by 10 with my alarm set for 5. I end up not being able to fall asleep until midnight, I wake up at 3, try to go back to sleep, and by the time I do it's already time for me to get up. Has anyone else had this issue when they've been busy as hell with work? Any advise for this? I've tried everything from taking melatonin to going completely without caffeine for a few days.

melatonin doesnt do crap for me, but ZZZquil is actually surprisingly good. Problem is you will probably build up a tolerance pretty quickly.

That Zzz Quil worked fine the first two weeks then you start to drink 1/4 a bottle so I switched to the purple gel caps put a heating pad under my back and turn on a documentary or relaxing YouTube video.

A heating pad for my back sounds like a great idea actually. I'll have to look into that. My problem with stuff like ZZZquil is it knocks me out cold for 10 hours and I only have time to sleep for 6-7 hours.

I might stop being jewish and invest in a new, top of the line mattress, only reason I haven't yet is because I hate buying shit that's hard to move when I basically move once a year. My old one is a piece of shit and is probably contributing to this problem.

There are some yogic breathing techniques that can help you relax enough to fall asleep.

ZZZQuil is ok but it makes me wired out and sleepy at the same time, so I wake up every 15 minutes ready to kill someone.

You need more time than 30m after work to go to sleep. You need to wind down. Try staying up an hour later, you'll probably sleep better and longer. I have a fan that I run all the time when I am sleeping, all year round. The noise keeps me from being woken up by random shit.

What are you doing all day at work? If you're able, mixing in some strenuous physical activity, 30 minutes to an hour could help your body feel more tired when it's time to go to sleep.

I'm sitting at a desk :lol

I think the exercise thing could be the problem. I was working out 6x a week when I was working normal hours, but that's stopped because I don't have the time. I need to find a way to work it back in though.

I think, just as Jeebus pointed out, that if you have something else other than your old cold lifeless pillow to hug and kiss while sleeping, you'd probably be able to sleep much better imho. Insomnia doesn't really have anything to do with heavy workload imho, actually busyness would only work in your favor combating insomnia if anything. Like that elder cousin of mine who's about 5'9 but weighs at least 300 pounds, he's often tired as shit after work and sleeping has never been a problem to him. And I think 6-7 hours of sleep is enough for a young guy, only a dog and a bitch need to sleep 8 hours or more imho.

Brown Noise - Utilizes the lower sound frequencies to generate a deep ambient rumble. Brown noise is excellent for aiding sleep, pacifying children and pets, and even masking Tinnitus. It's also great for breaking in audio equipment and soothing migraines.

Had this problem all the time my last semester when I was studying 7-8 hours. Tried Melatonin and that didn't work either but Nyquil pills did the trick for me.

:lol Hopefully I didn't lose them because I'll probably be in a similar situation soon tbh

Carbohydrates after 6pm will make you less likely to enter REM sleep, but foods containing Casein protein typically helps you sleep.

I would suggest casein concentrated foods such as cottage cheese an hour before you fall asleep. If you are lactose intolerant, then a small helping of food containing tryptophan (soy protein, walnuts, fish) and magnesium (nuts & fish) with tea (lower caffeine alternatives such as chamomile or passion fruit) would have a beneficial affect on sleep outweighing the simple carbohydrates which it might contain.

Run at night.

I find that if I work out/run in the PM as opposed to AM, I am up later.

When I can't sleep Melatonin does the trick for me OP. You may want to try tylenol PM or get a script from the doc.

I am really suprised to say this, but the child sodomizer has given you the best advice ITT.
You need exercise, but if you are already busy from 5 am to 9 pm I could see how that would be a problem. If there is any time of day you think you can cram some in, definitely do it. Since you body is at rest all day but your brain is working, it makes it near impossible to get a good nights rest. I have been through this before as well and it sucks.

I am not fond of cottage cheese either, but it is proven to have a positive impact on REM sleep.

I have heard it is more of an acquired taste.

Cottage cheese + peanut butter tastes pretty good, tbh..

I eat it before before sleeping for the Casein/fats goods, and it tastes a lot better than I originally expected..

Your serotonin levels may be off. Try 50-100mg of a supplement called 5-HTP. I take it 30min before bedtime on more or less an empty stomach w about 4oz of grape juice & sleep like a rock. Obviously you should always consult with a doctor before taking anything. I currently take 200mg, but it really shouldn't be taken for more than 12 weeks. It can have adverse effect when taken w food. It can make you more alert. It does me. Eat an early dinner & you'll be fine. Daily exercise can help as well. I am no doctor, but this is what has been working for me for the last 2 weeks w great results.
