View Full Version : Doris Diaw guarding Lebron is probably the worst idea since suicide bombs

watching Pop send in Doris Diaw to guard the most dominant player in the league is painful to watch.

let's get our priority straight, if Spurs can make it past the 2nd round, we should celebrate like we won the ship. any other aspirations would be ridiculous

Time to enjoy Duncan's and Manu's last year in the league :tu

Lebron doesn't post Diaw nor can he really overpower him on drives. Diaw does a good job of forcing him into difficult, contested shots. I'd love to see the Spurs matchup against small ball with a Parker, Manu/Green, Leonard, Diaw and Duncan lineup.

Diaw can hit 3's and attack off the dribble. Giving Duncan room to operate in the post. Miami would have to choose who to put on Diaw (Battier or Lebron) if they put someone smaller, he can post them up.

Diaw does about as good a job of making things somewhat difficult on the Kang than anyone else on this team, outside KL of course.

I clicked on the thread hoping for a photoshop of Doris Burke and Diaw.

what? Diaw is excellent at limiting Lebron.

The young player I would really like Spurs to get is former SDSU Kawhi Leonard. This guy is very good and having him would have helped a lot Spurs against Miami yesterday.

I realize this thread is trolling attempt. That said, other than Diaw eventually getting tired, I think he did a fine job on Lebron. Big enough to keep him from pushing into the post and smart enough to not bite on fakes. Diaw always surprises me with his agility. Pretty good moves for his apparent size.

It's a shame we didn't put Paul George on LeBron...

too bad we passed on him for Boozer, and then we waived Boozer anyway. Same ol spurs.

Should've traded Paul George for him, tbh

Instead we traded Paul George for J.R. Smith. Such a stupid move I still beat my head against a windshield because of it. Someday my head will go right through.

Exactly. He's been one of the main guys on Lebron a few times over the past couple of seasons and has acquitted himself very well. Should they meet again in the Finals, he'll only be looked to for a spot 8 to 10 minutes on Lebron.

Horrible thread, I'd argue that he's actually one of the best in the league to throw on him. You wouldn't think it would work, but with Lebron bulking up so much and becoming much more Big Man than Guard both in terms of physical build and game style, Boris is great.

Essentially, sticking Boris on him forces him into a lot of jumpers or fatigue, because Lebron really can't bully Diaw down low all too well. As great and dominant as he has become, Lebron still has a weakness in that he can easily lose confidence in himself if things aren't going his way. There was speculation that he was losing serious confidence in his shot in the finals last year because boris and kawhi forced (i actually liked Boris's work more though from what I can recall) him into jump shot after jump shot, and when those don't fall it's hard.

As most of us now know, he got over the hurdle unfortunately but boris is a great cover for him for about 15 - 20 minutes a night

yeah Kawhi was injured. Still a shitty idea to have Doris go 1-1 vs. the Kang

sure Diaw is a decent defender. But this is the Kang we are talking about. IMO I'd have liked to see more double teams on him. Instead of pretending Diaw does anything to slow him down.

In other words, Pop putting Diaw on Lebron is the easy solution, but it's also the lazy solution.

Diaw did as well as he was expected too, which was decent against a NBA elite.

aside from contract year heroics, i think he really has turned a corner. He fits the chemistry of the team so well. I agree and thanks for the clarification.

If it means Leonard locking up D-Wade, I'm with it. At least we know he won't back down Diaw easily. I'd imagine Diaw would back up to prevent the blow-by and make him a jump shooter. Just can't recover as quickly as Leonard.
