No - but his improvements (which largely comprise of catching passes thrown directly at him) are largely overstated. He's improving, but that is because he had no where to go but up. Spurs are stuck with him and he's going to get PT, so we have to hope he can find his jumper and learn to get better position (and hold said position) on defense.

not, but has worse hands than kwame brown

It's difficult to separate all the individual players that form the lowest tier of NBA basketball, tbh, every team has a few of them..the Spurs have Ayres, Joseph and DeColo, for example..

If Errors could catch passes with consistency he'd almost be a competent 6th big.

ChumpDumper

OkThe proper wording would be "Does JR Smith suck?"

The answer from a purely basketball standpoint is no, and I am not averse to a trade for him -- but just as current Spurs are shat upon because they are current Spurs, players who are not Spurs are often overvalued.

RacistA person could be white and have trouble with English.

It's kind of a shitty language to learn -- but not impossible.

Smith's playoff numbers recently are kind of terrible. That would concern me since I'm not sold on him as any kind of defensive asset.

Depends on how long they'll get minutes.. Bonner is good in moderation, Baynes is decent when he has minutes against bigs and not small lineups.. Ayres, well he's just a meat bag.

DMC

He's in over his head, just like Bonner, most of the time when they are on the floor. Ayres doesn't have the skills to make any real contributions. It's just a dunk now and then, and he cannot even grab a rebound if anyone from the other team is in the vicinity. In fact, the Spurs seem to give up 2nd attempts on almost every other play. It's fucking pathetic how shitty we are at rebounding.

Texas_Ranger

This season yes. If you cant catch the ball go play something else.

Doesn't belong in the nba, one of the worst spurs players I've ever seen. Can anyone honestly name a single thing he provides the spurs with other than 6 fouls to give?

Haven't seen anyone this bad since Udokas final year here

Ayres is horrible for the minutes he gets, but he's not a completely worthless player. He has good moments on d and has learned to make good cuts to the hoop. That's literally it, though, everything else is so far below NBA sea-level that it's a wonder he's playing for a good team.

jeebus
02-24-2014, 06:32 PM
has learned to make good cuts to the hoop.
The only reason why he makes those cuts is because his man has to cover Mills or Manu or whoever Ayres sets the screen for. That leaves him wide open in the lane, which may or may not lead to an easy layup or dunk. It's a simple move and it's so easy, a caveman could do it.

Take away that one simple move and you got a monkey trying to fuck a football.

He has 162 points this season. He also has 110 fouls.

He's not doing a very good job, unless you're comparing him to Kendrick Porkins.

When he stops playing occasionally decent defense. Considering Tiago's been hurt, he's been one of our better bigs as far as defense goes. He's a lot more mobile than Baynes and can stay in front of the guys he guards. Obviously nowhere near Duncan or Diaw level of effectiveness but we don't have any other options at the moment until the team is at full strength.

I don't want him to see a single minute of playoff time though, but I'd rather see him on the court in the 4th when we're up 15-20 than Duncan logging 36+ minutes.

( worst player list )

Dverde
03-01-2014, 11:30 PM
I wouldn't say the worse. I would say bottom 30 of all NBA. Ayres at least hustles up and down the court and has good size for his position. He is the worse player on the Spurs. Bonner is close, but that is only because every player in the NBA wants to show up or dunk on a red head white boy. They literally see red when they see Bonner. If Ayres was white and had red hair, he would be the worst NBA player.

Just another guy that wows coaches in practice with a great vertical and speed for his size but has zero actual basketball skill. This motherfucker can't catch a ball. Which would be fine if he wasn't such a weak bitch defending the post. Considering the contract we gave him......yeah, this dude is probably the worst.

My brain can't process how it is possible to be a professional in a league where you pass a ball around but yet you can't catch a ball.

What a fucking waste of a roster spot. We needed someone who could defend and rebound in the playoffs and instead we got a guy who wouldn't even start in an intramurals league.

monkeypunk
03-05-2014, 08:14 PM
He's a decent defender and rebounder but that is it. He sets good screens but is lost after, rolling to the basket every time no matter how packed the lane is. And obviously he can't catch a fucking cold to save his life.

He used to have a little mid range shot til Pop tore his heart out, lol. Honestly, he could learn a lot from Oberto who would roll right to any open spot on the floor. I know Ayres doesn't have the IQ for it but if he could pick up the basic concept and believe in his shot again, he might actually produce.... something.

Somebody from this years draft will make the nba again. I'm sure there were reason other than the NBA as to why certain players are picked.
