Pop has seen so much basketball at this point, maybe he only gets excited when he can take a really raw project and make it work throughout the season. That's the only thing I can think of. I never realized how much I appreciated catching passes until Ayres though.

Pop didn't like Blair. He demoted him to the bench two years in a row and Blair spent majority of his time in the doghouse.

I still say Pop's love affair with Bonner was worse. There isn't a Tiago Splitter type of player sitting behind Ayres in the rotation. Baynes is just as shitty.

Pop did love blair for the first few years of his career though. :lol remember the 2011grizz series and the numerous match ups against the lakers where pop would start blair against bynum. it was only till 2012 when pop replaced blair with tiago for good.

Yeah but he got benched in the 2nd half of the 10-11 season in favor of McDyess and even fell behind Splitter in the rotation in the Grizzlies series when it was already late. Then the following year, he got benched in the 2nd half of the season when Diaw came along. He definitely was put on a short leash for his mistakes which is why he felt so sour about his time here.

Bonner, OTOH, choked in the 2010 playoffs and got rewarded with a 4 year extension. :lol

The jury is still out on Ayres since it's still his first year. But he's awful and I don't see why he needs to be played anymore.

To b fair to Ayres, he DOES try, and hard at that. But that doesn't change the fact that his contributions to the team are minimal at best, be it stats wise or the Little things. Heck, he's not even capitalizing on the extended minutes.
