I'm going to rank the power backs. Those in the game to wear down a defense, move the chains.

1.Marion Mottley....he was a 240 pounder when d linemen were 230.
2.Jim Brown......he was "da man" but did a lot of his damage with his speed, not so with Mottley.
3.Earl Campbell....a monstrosity!
4.Mack "The Truck" Lee Hill....had to be seen to be believed. Bi polar?
5.Marshawn Lynch....keep in mind he is doing his thang against the best athletes to ever play defense.
6.John Riggins...yep, the Deisel!
7.Larry Csonka....looked for people to hit.
8.Cookie Gilchrist....a 250 pounder in the early 60's, the first great AFL rusher
9.Jim Nance...a former NCAA wrestler
10.Jerome Bettis....he'd be higher but he relied too much on his speed.

USC played Alabama back before the SEC allowed the Afro American athlete. The coach for Alabama at that time was the great Bear Bryant. After watching Cunningham run over around and thru his Crimson Tide for 4 quarters he saw right then and there things had to change. His white boys were no match and he knew it. It is pretty tricky trying to group those who played in different eras. Do we go with dominance of era, all things being equal?

Lynch is known as "The Beast" at a time when we;ve never seen a more physically gifted athlete playing in the NFL. Nobody on my list played the level of athlete that Lynch is pitted against. I had to give that a lot of respect.

I would think Van Eeghen was the best bruiser they had. While Bo was known for his speed he was as powerful as they come as well. Marcus Allen has become famous for that Super Bowl run but he was a guy known for always getting the tough yards in short yardage situations. Marv Hubbard is another name on my list

The Raiders had a great tantum with Clem Daneils the first 1000 yd rusher for the Raiders and Dixon who was a stud between the tackles.

Van Eeghan a far more versatile back, both him and Marv Hubbard who had good power were out of Colgate, hardly a football factory.

Bo had tremendous speed and while not .."as powerful as anyone"...he had power, but it was his speed/power combo that made him special.

Marcus Allen was the total package, he could do it all. While at Lincoln High in San Diego he was a QB who also played defensive back. We all know his story at USC. One of the true greats!

The Raider back that gets ignored is Napolean Kaufman. He was a Cali State 100m champ while at Lompoc, and had some great seasons as a Raider.
