what's scary about the seahawks is that they don't have to worry about paying a lot of their guys yet so they should actually be more stacked this year. smart money says they let Zach Miller kick rocks instead of paying him his 7+ million, and they should look to find a more affordable replacement for the overpaid Sidney Fitzgerald
their main notable free agents are Giacomini, Michael Bennet, Golden Tate, and Walter Thurmond

I expect the Ravens to be better next season. They have cap room, draft picks and a provem OC. I think they'll get aroud Cinci.
SanFran's is major decline, I feel. I really don't see them making the playoffs next season. But with how bad the NFCN/E is, who knows?

How is SF in major decline? They just played the world champs to a close game a few weeks ago in Seattle.
They have all the pieces on both sides of the ball, they've been a top 2 team the last 2 years, I expect it to be the same next year. They're not an old or worn down team for people to say they're in decline.
The teams that are truly in decline are the ones I mentioned... New England and Denver, who have been the class of the AFC the last 2 years.

The Pats and Broncos are in decline, but its not like there are many AFC teams that are threatening to kick them out of the picture. The Colts will be there, the Chargers should be better. It depends on whether or not the Ravens/Steelers can get their mojo back

The Pats just went 12-4 with half their fucking team on IR. Franchise Talib, either let Edelman walk or sign him and cut Amendola, then use that money in a safety to replace faggot Steve Gregory. Add in a healthy Wilfork, Kelly, and Mayo, maybe get a week or two out of Gronk before he IR's, and then see Collins and MVDobson take a big jump in their second year, and the Pats are the clear AFC favorite.

true. the wilfork injury sorta slipped my mind there. the dude is an absolute beast, hope he can still bring it at his advanced age coming off the injury tho. Kelly is overrated as fuck and gets as many offsides penalties as tackles.
Murphy went from 521 to 610 yards in his second year, lets see if Dobson can make a similar leap starting from 519 yards. to be fair, in Murphy's second year, he went from Russell to the tandem of Campbell/Gradkowski, so improvement in numbers was sort of expected

Seattle is indeed playing with house money the next couple years (which I admitted I'd cop to if they won, so here I am. Winning it changes the game, and relieves some pressure, but in the Seahawks case they could get another crack at it. It's all about getting the SB before the chickens come home to roost and or you hit the expiration date on your team's competitiveness. Baltimore beat the exp date, as did the Mavs in 2011 in the NBA. I'm not counting the Niners out yet, but there still a really big question mark when it concerns Bowman and their airhead QB. Gore is also reaching that cliff (sadly, it's bound to happen), and neither Kendall nor James seems a capable replacement--I doubt they'll be able to get by on spot-duty again next year. I think the Cardinals will fall back to 8-8/7-9 (PURELY b/c of Carson Palmer), and the Rams, who the fuck knows. Pack will be back, Bears will challenge them, Lions will fold, etc etc. Barring another Eli/Giants renaissance, I don't see a team in that division challenging the big dogs in the NFC. Atlanta is probably a fringe team, Saints will be dece, and the Panthers will probably regress slightly to 10-6 imo. Definitely a good outlook for Seattle as of now, but my early sleeper is the Pack.
In the AFC, for christ's sake get Luck some help so he's not forced to throw it to Lavon Brazil and DHB, or hand it off to T-Rich. 3 to 4 changes can be made on the OL too, then there's the secondary. Full of holes. Easy division winners again, but divisional round fodder until massive improvements noted otherwise. I agree with Baltimore being back on top the North, but wouldn't piss on Pitt's grave yet. I want the Bengals to fail b/c they just aren't good enough to be taking up playoff spots that belong to teams that could make some noise. Really interested to see what SD does, how Manning approaches his latest failure, and if the Chiefs can beat a +.500 team. If New England won that division by 4 games despite only having Tom Brady and a vaginal Talib, it's pretty safe to say you can crown them again next year. Tannehill SUCKS, and they are doomed to be the Cowboys of the AFC. Unless Curious Geno gets a brain transplant don't expect much out of New Jersey either. Buffalo is Buffalo.

The Pats have had that division gift wrapped for the better part of over a decade now, excluding a couple of years of Rex Ryan's Jets giving them a challenge, or when Cassel led them to an 11-5 playoff miss

Yup, speaks to the leadership and quality of those organizations, tbh. Jets beat them in the divisional round in 2010 but neither of those 2 years did they have a realistic shot at the division. That one year of Cassel +Wildcat bullshit is all that separates them from a decade long reign on the AFCE, and STILL, not one of these shitstains can rise up to even respectable status to challenge them

The Ravens have cap room despite Flacco taking up a whopping $14 Million next season. They have an off-season to get healthy, and Ozzie is among the best at replacing talent. I'm not picking them for the Super Bowl, but it's not like it would take a lot of win the division.
Anyway, yes San Fran is still close to being the new Jets. Their curremt culture is loathsome, and they lack leadership. That's on top of their best players either getting older or coming to the ends of their deals. Who's their receiving corps? Their secondary? They'll be without Bowman, and the both sides of the line took a step back. Sure, if they draft well, they can stave off the talent issue, but I'm not very high on Harbaugh's staying power.

They can also sign a reciever and a corner and Bowen will be back IMO during the year. I agree his loss is big but he won't be out all next year will he? I doubt it. I think they can draft well too! Gore is getting older though now so that is an issue IMO but other than that Crabtree will get better and be healthy all year and Bolden will be solid for another year too. They will not take a nose dive like you think they will.

:lol @ Niners declining. They have at least two more years of being contenders and that's if everything stays the same. Gore has at least that much left before he falls off a cliff. I doubt they overpay Kraep, but if they do then they don't deserve to win anyway. Bowman will be back and hopefully close to what he was this year. Just need to see who they draft to decide if two years is their window.

I wouldn't say I'm low on his staying power either after going to 3 straight NFCCG's and 1 SB, compiling a 36-11-1 record and a 5-3 playoff record on the heels of a decade of misery. I also wouldn't say they're lacking leadership, either--what do you mean by that, or whom specifically?

The Niners will be just fine... and will once again be the main competition to Seattle. I don't see why either team gets significantly worse, or how other NFC team's get significantly better. The only team with potential is the Eagles, since they should be able to get Maclin back for cheap and hope he produces. They literally have no needs on offense and will dedicate free agency and the draft to their defense. It's also a matter of what the Packers can do to address their several glaring holes. No other team really appears to be a threat right now, the Saints, Falcons, Cowboys, Gaints, Cardinals, Lions, Bears... just not an intimidating group of teams

New England is actually the 2nd youngest team in the league, IIRC. Of course, when your QB is 37, that hurts. Hopefully we'll pull a tank job like Indy and get our new QB of the future in two or three years.

The 9ers remind me of the pre-2008 Ravens. A lot of talented defenders which horrible attitudes and little accountability. Obviously, they're more successful than the Ravens were at that time, but I also don't think their Culture of whining and failing in the clutch is going to improve. Not when their coach is the biggest perpetuator.
And I love how people act like the 9ers made the playoffs comfortably when two of their biggest competitors lost their QBs to injuries for a huge chunk of the year and they only managed to squeak by in many games in an easy schedule (out of division). Even then, they were a bad call from not controlling their own destiny going into the final week.
Finally, their roster is overrated. They had to rely on the Ravens gifting them Boldin to have anything resembling a receiving corps. Don't give me the injury excuse. SanFran wasn't any worse off than a lot of teams were in that department, namely the Pats, Falcons, Seahawks, Ravens and Colts. They weren't unlucky; they just had to deal with the normal amount of injuries, unlike the year before. Gore is old, but despite what people kept saying, the team absolutely depends on him to carry the load. They have backs in the pipeline, but clearly the team isn't too confident in them. Ther defensive line was old last year and needs more young talent. The secondary still is the weak link. They just lost their DPOY.
Look, obviously the NFL is too unpredictable to say that a team will decline, especially before the off-season. But people who scoff at the 9ers potential decline are not being honest with themselves. The team was in decline last season but got bailed out by the "hard" non-divisional teams on their schedule being major disappointments. They needed a bad call and a fraternal gift to avoid being .500 or worse. How are extension talks with Kaep going to go? Are they going to keep/replace adequately Boldin? Are players finally going to get tired of their skipper acting like a five-year-old? This is what declining teams look like before the wheels fall off. There's no aging gracefully in the NFL.

It's funny how the breaks go in the NFL, tbh, and how the media covers the game..
The 9ers were 1 play away from being eliminated in the 1st round, and if that had occurred, everybody would be in agreement that they're a team on the decline..for now, only realists see it, tbh..

I'm expecting the Saints to improve from this season. Alot of young guys across the board who will even get better especially on defense and the skilled positions. The o-line and the secondary are the only real concerns. LB core is next. Otherwise pretty talented everywhere else.

Which brings up the interesting topic of division winners automatically getting a home playoff game despite having a worse record than other non-division winning playoff teams. It's hard agreeing to the idea of superior teams having to travel, and not being awarded for their play.
