Morey the genious.
Lowry wanted a trade because he wasn't starting anymore and hated McHale. Dragic wanted a no trade clause and would have made it tougher to sign Dwight.

wasn't a player option for the fourth year?

Yeah I think so, don't really remember though. I think they offered around 10 million anyway, but were going to tank that year until the Harden trade unexpectedly came along.

they have chosen Lin over Dragič that's the whole story, just a bad decision. Lowry was actually acceptable, he is a bad defender and very injury prone, Dragič instead is a fucking badass, a true player that can win titles (as a second banana).

Lin wasn't Morey's decision. Les Alexander, the owner, threw a bitch fit at Morey for cutting Lin when Lin was lighting it up in New York. He's the one who forced him to make that offer. Morey wanted to tank anyway, so Alexander wanted to profit off Lin if they were to tank. Yes a bad decision.

Agree, Les Alexander as an owner is just a shittier version of Mark Cuban. Both dudes want to have a hand in the team's operation as well as transactions despite not knowing shit about this game, and when a transaction or any other FO decision turns out to be a terrible one, the GM unfortunately becomes the scapegoat. The only difference is that Cuban is a sugardaddy type of owner who is willing to pay, while Les is a cheapass

Mavs had been having one of the league's biggest payrolls the ten years prior, finally Cuban's loyalty and persistence paid off
