I think fearing god's wrath can be a good thing so long as it enforces the right morals that promote common good and not the bigoted ones.
No.
Fearing society's wrath for breaking the law might be a good thing, but it's debatable.
There is absolutely no good that can come from promoting fear of a magic man's wrath for being bad.

I don't see why not. If a guy decides not to go on a killing spree because he fears going to hell, a lot of livew get saved.
referring to the egotistical mindset that prevents many from realizing how indifferent the universe is to our existence in comparison to other forms of life
I think it has a lot to do with the fact that we are, in essence, trapped in our own bubble of consciousness so we get this impression that we must have a purpose, else why am I here, now.. in this reality? Basically why is this my view portal? Individually and collectively we more easily accept that we are the intended outcome than just a part of the whole. That's a simple explanation of a much more complex issue.
I don't see why not. If a guy decides not to go on a killing spree because he fears going to hell, a lot of livew get saved.
We have to define "good". It would be good for me if people dropped sacks of money off at my home, but not good if people did so because they thought I was going to kill their child if they didn't.

Blake Almighty would never understand this point of view.
He is too busy either criticizing valid reasoning or when that ruse fails, as it inevitably always does, accusing of poor reading comprehension, which also fails miserably.

Blake is saying that ends don't justify the means. Hitler's (yes I'm invoking the Hitler fallacy) regime made many medical discoveries that we still use today however they did so by torturing human beings. The product is great, but the means to get there is unacceptable. The means to get desired behavioral response from society is unacceptable if it means perpetuating a lie, because people remain prisoners to their own stupidity. Freedom means knowing the truth and making decisions based on it. It doesn't mean being coerced by dogma.

Sure. But that's rights theory. Not killing someone is different than giving away property. I don't care why someone decides to be a good citizen. I see little wrong with lying to folks who need to be lied to lest they harm others.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy you just used there though. Just because people have been lied to for centuries doesn't mean they needed to be lied to. Were we to not have any such thought of a supreme being or an afterlife, we could still survive. Animals do.
Besides, religion also coerces people to commit heinous acts. I'd prefer people know the truth about our existence. If they still wanted to kill me, I'd deal with that then.

many of you look at different collages and think because its hard to be accepted it must be "smarter" not true. I joined the military after the 11th grade got a government GED and was sent to MIT to take a reverse engineering course and some of them had no idea what a "Tamale" was.
point is its not the "college" it's the "job" you get afterwards.
This is something MIT students and Professors fail to admit. But that's another debate they are losing in.... this one is really about "facts" and "Evidence"

Humans could survive without a lot of things. Other animals survive without all intellectual pursuits. But I wasn't saying that humans in general needed religion to survive. I was speaking about cases in which fear of a deity leads to good things. If certain people can't be reasoned with and need to fear something supernatural in order to stay in line, I'm all for it. We lie to people all the time to keep them in line. A lot of hostage negotiations are settled with lies.
I didn't say religion doesn't lead to bad acts. I think people will do good or bad things and just make up whatever explanation they want to justify it. Both theists and atheists have done greats acts of good and evil (for lack of a better term). You just said that nothing good can come from lying to people, and that was my counter example.

It's about "macro" Evolution when some creature becomes something "other" than it's own "kind"

I don't believe that religion thwarts evil acts. I believe it gives people a moral out for doing whatever they want through creative, convenient exegesis of religious text.

Sorry, it was Blake who said that. My mistake. It was his post that started this particular branch of conversation. I should have read more carefully.
I don't think lying to someone is a very bad means at all, so I respectfully disagree there. I agree about the moral out idea, but I think it's more of an out for institutions rather than individuals. Churches and governments use religion to justify certain actions while being disingenuous. People often aren't aware that they are using religion as a moral out. There are those who legitimately are compelled to do or refrain from doing actions based on what a religious text tells them to do. Otherwise, religion really hasn't had any power over individuals, and it's no more harmful than a fairy tale.
So either religion is/was powerless to direct moral norms or it has spurred both great compassion and hatred. Either way, it seems by and large neutral on that front.

When Does Mouse consider living things different? Are lions different from Tigers? Why or why not?
These questions are asked because Mouse has no working definition of species. He mentions micro and macro evolution and completely skips over speciation. He does not understand the basics of what science says and then pretends in his fantasy land he has solved great problems.

If you want to lie to your kids that God is watching them even when they think nobody is looking, that's your prerogative.
But if we're talking about a larger societal scale, such as a public school classroom, then you're basically bringing religion into it.

I know all about species and types of living organizums the reason the word kind is brought up it's what the bible uses to acknowledge that a certain form of Evolution takes place (with in its species)
And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so.

Darwin got so excited finding all those different birds that shared a common ancestor he just assumed all life shared the same DNA. Yes there are many different varieties of dogs that were bread and some evolved into wolves coyotes etc but they keep the same DNA no dog has evolved into a camel no bird has evolved into a cow.
That is why Science is trying so hard to prove birds evolved from dinosaurs they want to jump over the DNA by using fake fossils.
I already know I and my ancestors did not Evolve from a fish your the one who eats that shit so prove it already.

It's not about beliefs it's about what can be proven.
Nothing can be totally proven in science. The evidence becomes so overwhelming that it causes rational people to believe. This is something that people who just wander into debates not understanding anything about human thought and science would retort with.
So answer the question without playing your little games. I know your MO. You know very little about anything. If you actually attempt to answer a question involving the topic at hand, evolution, you melt away. Because you know very little concerning the topic except you have decided to reject the subject.
Gadfly.
I wanna be different because I have more insight than people who have spent a good portion of their life studying a subject. This would make me appear to be a creative thinker.
This gets so old. It's used by a good number of posters. So your use of this pseudo intellectual BS is very mundane.
I would change my present belief that populations of organisms change through time and all that goes with this, if you could present overwhelming evidence to the contrary. So GO. Start with speciation.

Then why have it in the text books the solar system is 12 billion years old?
The earth is 4.6 billion years old? You like students being lied to?
If they are not facts shouldn't such stories be in the fiction section of the library ?

So which Blake in which cubical are you today?
When one Blake gets their shit handed to them, then another pipes up as if nothing happens.
Typical.
:toast
And then because his buddies (plural) are attacked, we get the ever astutely intellectual comments of "humping Blakes leg" from CN. And we all know how much of a giant in the intellect department CN is, barely above Blake IMHO.
More typical inanity.

Oh no, don't include me in your fantasy world.
I am content just where I am without your ridiculously false assumptions and accusations.
Just keep digging that hole of yours, but leave me out of it. Maybe you'll find China eventually.

But I guarantee you, I will finish it, you can take that to the bank.

Trying so hard to avoid pulling out the broken record card but if you go back and read I posted "I don't like posting from a phone" while at work.
Also you seem civil at the moment but I know at any time you will turn into Lenny Bruce.
3rd....I posted earlier almost every question that has to do with Evolution I have answered in many topics.
Do you walk into a theater half way furring the film and ask the projectionist to rewind the film?
But since I owe it to my online followers I will try and address your questions tonight if not Friday after get back to San Antonio where I keep my hard drives with evidence you seek.

In his case it's just a simple typical case of conditioned ignorance.
What else could it be?
It's obviously not intelligence on parade because that would be an oxymoron in his case.
Ho deserves what he gets, because that is all he ever puts out.
Odd he doesn't find it funny any more, being his only retort is the usual "obsession" card.

So readers should ask mouse when is something different than its own kind.
This before.

Decent question. Yesterday was he'll getting paid on Thursdays and tring to pay bills online and eBay took most of my free time.
I will be in San Antonio 8pm where I can go into better details.
But just off hand the word speculation has a huge gray area.
A bookie can speculate how many points Denver will win by and Vegas speculates heavy betting so the odds are always changing especially if Peyton Manning cuts his hand two days before the supper bowl.
Weather men speculate the tempatures for the weekend and doctors speculate the chances of your Cancer coming back after surgery.
So try to avoid using it when I can.

The other side of the pancake speculate can be viewed as most likely.
I speculate if you keep drinking a pint of whiskey everyday your liver will need to be replaced when your 50.
I spectate before Monday your question for me will be answered.

Once I find out his views on speciation (after he googles it today) I will probably quit. I just don't see how people who really understand evolution can reject it outright unless they fear its implications. Starting with speciation, and restricting the debate so as to not get into the Big Bang etc... might help me understand... Nah.
It might be useful to some others that actually care about understanding topic in a more complete manner.
People who want to understand evolution aren't reading about it on an NBA club forum. The material is out there. Debates regarding it are non-productive since they reduce to debates over the validity of science itself. Those who don't accept science are not interested in learning about it.

well I never said "Evolution" doesn't exist we all know a caterpillar "Evolves" into a Butterfly. I said in earlier posts of the many different Birds. My original point was I said "Evolution" of Man "Evolving from a Fish" is a fantasy story some sort of based upon faith a Religion. and need not be in the textbooks unless you teach "Alternative Design" why is that so bad?
psssst! more Research, less questions" post your Evidence already!
Show me the "FUCKING FOSSILS"
Sorry always wanted to copyright that slogan but didn't have the time so I posted it here to sort of time stamp my idea. a poor mans copyright of sorts.
I plan to use that very slogan when I meet in person the MIT debate / Evolution seminar I hope you watch it your views on life may change....
