View Full Version : Why didn't the refs review Patty Mills' game-winner?

Why didn't the refs review Patty Mills' game-winner? It looked good with a naked eye... they could have at least reviewed it. Last time, I checked, it's possible to score with under a second left (remember Fisher in 2004 or remember the lob-alley-hop at the buzzer by Dwight Howard?). This is the second time we've been hosed of a potential game winner (after we came back from like 20 pts). The refs waived off Danny Green's game winner in Dallas as well (we would end up losing this game). This is ridiculous.

No it isn't... I already know of two examples in which someone scored AGAINST us with less than a 1 left... it's possible to catch and shoot. We were fortunate to win this one, but in the Dallas game, they waived it off when it was clearly good. They called it good on the court and NEEDED irrefutable evidence to overturn it but didn't...

0.1 is possible (in the NBA) if it's an alley-oop pass tip-shot.

NBA catch and shoot minimum is 0.3, by rule. You can only tip in with 0.1.

Fisher did 0.4 with half spin fade away.

I thought the minimum for catch and shoot was 0.4

Yeah but Tim's previous shot went through the net with 0.8 left. I don't think the 0.4 shot should have counted as played, but I also think that if the clock had been right (0.8) then he easily would have gotten it off in time.

Lakers didn't call timeout until the clock was at .4.

Fisher did 0.4 with half spin fade away and a "very cooperative" timekeeper.

Can we stop posting videos? I can't stand Fisher... I thought it was over until he started dropping buckets on us in 2012. I think I hate this guy more than Lebron or Kobe.

Does this really still bother Spurs fans? I mean, they did win 2 more titles after that lol.
It's been 10 years and I've seen enough games to say that it's part of the game.

I thought he had his own thread? I thought he's going to get pinked if he started another thread and not posted his thoughts in his own thread that Bruno made for him?

That David Lee play was not .1 seconds. Clock started late for sure. Bogut's was more of a tip and that lasted like .3

0.3, per the Trent Tucker Rule: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trent_Tucker_Rule

The Official Rules of the National Basketball Association state

NO LESS THAN :00.3 must expire on the game clock and shot clock when a ball is thrown inbounds and then hit instantly out-of-bounds. If less than :00.3 expires in such a situation, the timer will be instructed to deduct AT LEAST :00.3 from the game clock and shot clock. If, in the judgment of the official, the play took longer than :00.3, he will instruct the timer to deduct more time. If :00.3 or less remain on the game clock when this situation occurs, the period is over. If :00.3 or less remain on the shot clock when this situation occurs, a shot clock violation is called.

The game clock and shot clock must show :00.3 or more in order for a player to secure possession of the ball on a rebound or throw-in to attempt a field goal. Instant replay shall be utilized if the basket is successful on this type of play and the game clock runs to 0:00 or the shot clock expires on a made basket and the officials are not reasonably certain that the ball was released prior to the expiration of the shot clock. The only type of field goal which may be scored if the game clock and shot clock are at :00.2 or :00.1 is a “tip-in” or “high lob.”

It was a made basket, not a timeout. This ain't college.

but fisher in .4 seconds could catch the ball, turn around and fade away.

I haven't had a chance to watch the play again, but I could have sworn that clock was at 1.4 when the ball went in the hole in the penultimate play (the one before Patty's final shot).

That would have been a good trick, considering the ball was knocked out of bounds with 0.1 on the clock before SA re-inbounded the ball.

OK, that makes sense. The last recorded play has Wall's basket with 1.9 seconds left so I guess the Spurs must have lost 1.8 trying to inbound the ball.

I'm not sure Patty even knew how much time was on the clock.
