Spurs were 13th the previous season in defense. Last season the Spurs were 3rd (with Splitter starting instead of coming off the bench) The main difference was personnel. Splitter replaced Diaw. Splitter absolutely helped the Spurs make the Finals.

He should have been offered 4 tops. I always hate the, "but this team will take them" when have the spurs ever cared or gone into a bidding war? If Portland wanted Tiago so had let them go after him.
