The Chargers are actually exciting and worth looking forward to this year for the first time in a while, tbh.... Philbilly is coming off an epic rebound year, Keenan Allen basically just took a wet shit on the league, and Danny Woodhead has been a diamond in the rough for us.... with Jizzenhunt gone, the playcalling should improve, especially in the red zone, and another good draft from Telesco should address some of the obvious holes in our defense....

I'm thinking 9 wins again because of how tough the schedule is, but a deeper playoff run, tbh...

we need the ones where he got a penalty for causing someone to fall by juking them out.

I got 8-8 and tried my best to be optimistic. The Chargers are not a great road team. Been a long time since they
have gone 5-3 or better. I don't see that changing.

So where do they get 10 wins?

They do have a very weak secondary. And no stud pass rushers, that is not a good combo.

You are living in the past. We jettisoned Cox who didn't fit our system and signed flowers who does. Wright and Addae are more experienced. We got what some people think was the best corner in the draft. And we still have one of the best free safeties in the NFL.
Also all four of our starting LB's were injured for a good amount of the season last year.

ANd we haven't gone better than 5-3 on the road since early in Norv's tenure (2009) before him and AJ completely screwed the team up. Now our HC isn't a rookie anymore and we will probably be less likely to give away so many games again.

Dude, nobody knows more about what is happening in todays NFL than myself.

Your Charger DB's got a 6 ranking in my 2014 LINDYS PRO FOOTBALL PREVIEW. That is weak, ya see the Seahawks got a 9.5.

Do you want a little mini bio on all your defensive backs?

How about just..

Marcus Gilchrist...should be better in his second year
Richard Marshall....Verret could challenge him
Eric Weddle...has the ability to find the baol, keep others in the right spot.
Sharence Wright...had ups and downs, but should be better in 2014.

In ranking this seasons secondaries the Chargers came in .....ah....weren't ranked in the top 15. Ranking the individuals, only Weddle was ranked at number two.

Rookie Jason Verrett..needs to bulk uo a bit, a raw tackler.

Dude, at what point does your dumb ass figure out I.'m totally wrapped up in todays NFL? The history shit is just because......I can!

Your Chargers were ranked 29th vs the pass last season, now think stupid. Your best pass rusher had only 5 sacks, what's that tell us? Yep, QB's are having time to set and throw now what's that tell us?

I don't know todays NFL., hahahaha!!!!!!!!! That has gotta be the dumbest thing you've ever said. Talk to me about rookie Marion Grice out of ASU, I know....who?

And a rookie isn't going to be starting at any of them. One of our starters at the end of last year is probably our 5th DB. The person who he replaced has been kicked to the curb.

Flowers is better than any CB we had last year and we has proven plenty

You went 7-9 in 2012, were your backers healthy then? Why fight it guy, the Chargers are a very average defense. Not a strong unit on the defense, regardless of health. You drafted a DB number one for a reason, yep.....weak secondary....as I mentioned.

They played a different system before reid got there. I think he was injured and didn't do well in the first game and they moved him inside where he wasn't as good.

And they saved a bunch of money by cutting him.

You can't really say that this Chargers team right now isn't a good road team, after going to Denver and Kansas City and winning both games. Then going to Cincinnati who were unbeaten at home and winning.

Dwight Freeney when healthy even at his age is a stud pass rusher. Many great young guys who can get to the QB such as Melvin Ingram (out all last year until playoffs where he gets an INT), Corey Liuget (led the team in sacks whilst playing with a shoulder injury all season) and Kendall Reyes.

Weddle is an elite safety, Flowers is a damn near elite corner when playing in the right system.

You may be right, the team may very well only win 8 games, but I believe that they could very easily win 10-12 games if every player is healthy.

Well, lost in the traditional week 1 chokejob was the fucking amazing performance of our top 2 rookies, Jason Verrett and Jerry Attaochu.... for last night's game, Verrett tied with Weddle for the best overall grade on the team at +3.5, and he led the defense in pass coverage with a +3.3 grade despite going up against Larry fucking Fitzgerald.... he didn't even look like a rookie out there... meanwhile, Attaochu led our defense with a pass-rushing grade of +1.8 (including a strip-sack of Palmer) and even blocked a punt.... loved both picks at the time and they look even better now....

Too bad this young talent is being wasted by our gutless, pussy, Norv-esque coaching staff and an inbred quarterback who's responsible for more kids than clutch drives....

Verrett was mostly matched up with a rookie and was on fitz a little bit. Flowers was mostly on Fitz and did very well.

And a rookie isn't going to be starting at any of them. One of our starters at the end of last year is probably our 5th DB. The person who he replaced has been kicked to the curb.

Flowers is better than any CB we had last year and we has proven plenty

And about the pass rush. Like I said, all four of our starting LB's were injured for a good portion of last year.

I'll amend my first statement. That rookie should be starting soon because he is that dang good.

Let them gloat, as another team that will beat us at some point this year will. We just won the SB, these wins mean the world to them :lol. But, the Chargers played excellently, and the conditions definitely exacerbated the situation. It's better to see something like this in week 2, than in week 16. S.F losing definitely made me feel a lot better. Although Arizona is cause for concern. But, this game was very important as we are still down two corners heading into this Denver game, and Denver looks all salty and wants their regular season revenge :lol While losing another Non-Conference game wouldn't be the end of the world, it certainly would be a setback headed into the bye week as 3 of the first 4 games after the bye week are on the road.

Ifs don't count--you won there's no way around that. But to say Sherman was dominated more so than the LBs against Gates would be wrong. People just want to call him out for not being a 'humble' sports star so they see his responsibility got 5 catches for 55 yards. Wasn't one of his best games but when you're having to dedicate 3-4 people to the middle and the TE, you're going to be sieving yards all over the board. San Diego were fortunate to get 3 fumbles back and Rivers proved his mettle by getting obliterated at times and getting back up. It was a solid win for the Chargers but it is also week 2 and both teams still have issues that they need to address.

Sherman wasn't dominated but he did look silly.

The whole defense looked silly. It looked like they warped back to the days of Lofa Tatupu and Marcus Trufant. There were no check downs to the TE by the safety help and it left them one on one vs. Gates. Though, it did also look like Rivers just chucking it to Gates and hoping he caught them. It was an earnest return to '08 by Gates and that's why the Hawks couldn't handle the Chargers.

Gates best play besides the outstretched TD reception was tucking the ball away after a catch thus hanging on when the 'Hawks DB/LB gave him the one-two. He has become quite a liability with his fumbles.

As to the Cheathawks vastly overated D, i got a kick out of Mophead acting all non chalant between every play including right up to the snap. He tries to do a Deon Sanders imitation and failed. If not for the underthrown Krapernik pass attempt and the mere average play to break it up, Mophead is not nearly the media hype he currently is.

Bills rush will beat Chargers O line agreed, so it will be interesting to see if and how O Coor Frank Reich counters.
Game 1, the giveaway vs the Cardinals he did not use Danny Woodchuck very much. Royal and Gates were in slacker mode dropping balls and being lazy asses so hard to gauge.

Game 2 vs the CheatHawks, lots of timely short dump offs to Woodchuck and Royal. Some good quick counter runs up the middle too. Gates was exerting himself and while the 3 tds rightly get all the media hype, it was Gates holding while being two man tackled that showed great progress over his past 3 years self.

If Chargers can move chains and at least do a 50-50 it should be a close game.

Have you seen how Phildo thinks he is Peyton Manning with his check offs at the line?
If they stick with plenty of dinker passes to Woodhead and Royal etc, fine. (Well, maybe not in tommorows rain.)
But i swear against the Cardinals the Hillbilly was calling all kinds of weird shit and at the last second too. Players were looking at him with body language like, what? What are you changing the play to???? And then he doesn't get them the info on time. He is still playing Peyton as the game clock goes below 2. :lol

Or they need someone from the bench or practice squad to really step up.
Remember when Vincent Jackson went down injured / pouted with his agents when the Chargers wisely refused to make him one of the top 3 WRs? Arijutu (sp) stepped right in and caught just as many for just as many yards.

He and Jackson both got targeted about the exact same number of times (24-23).
If you throw out a complete suck ass game Rivers had vs the Raiders (2-8 going for Seyi), Seyis completion to target rate was 11-15 with 20 yards per catch. I know Rivers must have thrown VJ some suck ass throws too, but VJ has cronically sucky catch per target rates for his entire career.

But who are your other recievers? And I was mainly directing the comment at your "Royal took his touches and then some" statement. Right now: Allen- 10 receptions, Royal- 4. ROyal has the Td's but Allen is still his go-to reciever.

My other is Julio Jones. Touches wise they are on par the last three weeks. This week being catch productive for Allen. TD difference though is all Royal.

He had 10 catches for 135 yards last week...albeit against the Jaguars.

Only 25 yards today, but it's not like he's dropping passes. Rivers is just getting the ball to Gates/Royal/Floyd more.

Last year, The San Diego Chargers were among the worst teams in the league in pass coverage with -47.6 overall grade; 3rd worst in the NFL. Their highest ranked cornerback last year (Johnny Patrick) was listed as the 95th best in the league.

All that has changed in just a year for The Chargers who now have the 4th highest pass coverage grade in the NFL. A big reason for the turn around is offseason free agent pick-up Brandon Flowers; who as of now sits comfortably as our top ranked cornerback (+10.1). Flowers looks to be one of the major free agent bargains this year.

Let's break it down and I will be optimistic.

At Arizona....loss
Seattle...loss
At Buffalo....win
Jacksonville..win
NYJ..win
At Oakland..win
KC...win
AT Denver..loss
at Miami...loss
Oakland..win
St.Louis..win
AT Baltimore..loss
NE...loss
Denver...win
At Niners..loss
At KC..loss

I got 8-8 and tried my best to be optimistic. The Chargers are not a great road team. Been a long time since they
have gone 5-3 or better. I don't see that changing.

So where do they get 10 wins?

They do have a very weak secondary. And no stud pass rushers, that is not a good combo.

HAHAHAHHAHA. so much fail.

PFF's Race for Rookie of the Year, Week 6:

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2014/10/15/race-for-rookie-of-the-year-week-6-3/

5. Jason Verrett, CB, SD: +7.7
Playing time was initially his biggest obstacle but he’s overcome that and backed it up with a series of strong performances. Allowing just 44% of balls thrown into his coverage to be complete. Took a wet shit on Derek Choke and the lolraiders with his first career pick in the clutch.

10. Branden Oliver, RB, SD: +2.8
The Chargers may have found something with Oliver. The undrafted free agent can turn open space into big yards and push the pile enough when required. Really taken advantage of a depleted backfield, but how will he fare as others at his spot return?

he's the one they went after in play #1, 2, and 5 from those clips, all of which were for good yardage and first downs. in his fairness he did get credited with 2 passes defended, but he was also the beneficiary of a james jones drop on the right sideline.

I don't think Mack has a chance in hell at actually getting DROY. As a unit the Raiders are a way below average defense, and i don't see them giving that award to somebody on our defense. Even though PFF isn't exactly mainstream media, its good to see he's actually getting some recognition despite not having many flash plays yet.

Yeah, I agree. I'm really enjoying my Mosley crow right now as well. Just sucks that Arthur Brown seems to have been a wasted pick. I haven't heard much about Aaron Donald, who's between Mack and Mosley in the rankings. i don't like either play tbh. the raiders are actually solid against the run in terms of YPA... and Mathews will be eased back. i don't think he'll get high volume. I expect Oliver to do better with the screen game, which the raiders have been terrible against.

Allen's production this seasons has depended on the playcalling. in his most successful games this year they were drawing up all the high% plays just for him (like quick hits, bubble screens, short hitches)... he has struggled to get separation on downfield routes, which is why his yards per catch are pretty low

For someone who loves "spots," you think you'd know that we haven't won after a bye since 2010. And all of our losses after the bye week in recent years have been to shitty teams (Jets, Browns, Redskins). We also barely squeaked past the Raiders in Oakland, and our defense is garbage.

All that matters is how the Chargers do under McCoy. Last time you played the Raiders at home 27-13. And they had won 4 games not...0.

guess i was wrong about the RB's. still, Mathews only ended up with 8.5 points in PPR leagues, which is pretty lousy.

Keenan Allen wasn't terrible, ended up with 14.3 PPR points, but I stand by my assessment of him. The guy can't get open. The only way he stays productive is if the Chargers keep forcing him little baby targets off of 1 step drops. 8 yards per catch today... 13 targets and only netted 63 yards
