No public vote, MIP is selected by sportswriters.

Dragic? Patty has a better chance of winning 6th man of the year.

Dragic is probably going to win MIP

Bledsoe?

Would have been if not for the knee injury.

Patty's weight loss made a huge difference this year.

I think that he is a for sure candidate for MIP. Not just his weight loss and trim-up, but his improved defense, his leadership while on the court (last year he just shot anywhere and everywhere when he got onto the court-no real pg skills at all), his sense of the game and his bb IQ all show real work over the summer.

Going to have to go with Dragic for MIP

Does anyone think that he has a realistic shot at 6th man of the year?

I'd hope Patty would get some consideration, but realistically I don't think he can win it. Manu was getting a lot of 6th man love earlier this season, and even Marco's and Boris's names came up every now and again. I think our 3 to 4 super subs will likely split any pro-Spurs vote and take all of them out of contention. A shame.

I agree with Patrick Mills being MIP. It's not just that he lost the weight - it's HOW he lost the weight. He gained strength and noticeably more lift and explosiveness. And yes, he still waves the towel when he's not playing. I have been super proud of him this year.

Mills this year has improved defensively in that he doesnt get pushed around so easily by screens compared to last year
last year as soon as a screen came he was knocked out of the play
just last game he fought through a screen and blocked a midrange shot by Collison which he could never dream of last year
also better at hounding guys in the backcourt

improved ball handling this year in the pick and roll

quicker and faster release from 3 and he can also shoot off the dribble better

finishes better at the rim

faster overall from weight loss

He should be in the running but isn't the most improved. That would be Dragic. I knew he had to be good when we made him look like MJ in the 2010 playoffs.

Yeah like others have said, its gotta be Dragic.

Stephenson will also get some recognition. Patty for sure could get some votes though.

Big fan of Patty. I think we finally got our backup point guard behind Tony here, he stepped up his game big time.

I'm not sure if Patty's going to get the national attention he deserves, but there have been so many candidates for MIP this year:

patty
lance stephenson
dragic
bledsoe
cousins
Anthony Davis

i don't see what he improved to be fair, he has always been a very good shooter.

FWIW, looking at only the top 100 WS/48 this year of players who have qualified by minutes/game (IOW good enough to be considered), and substracting last year's WS/48

1) Kevin Love (great improvement over the injured year, usually ignored in most improved)
2) Bismack Biyombo
3) Goren Dragic
4) Markieff Morris
5) Jeremy Lamb
6) Patrick Mills
7) DeMarcus Cousins
8) Kyle Lowry
9) Arron Afflalo
10) Andrew Bogut (see Love)

Most decrease in WS/48, starting at 98 because Steven Adams (should be but won't be Rookie of the Year) is a rookie and Channing Frye didn't play last year. This isn't the true worst because I only looked at the current top 100. There's probably many like Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett who I didn't look at that have fallen more.

98) Tony Parker
97) Kosta Koufos
96) LeBron James (last year was that good since James is still second best in the NBA)
95) Jose Calderon
94) Jared Sullinger
93) Jimmy Butler
92) Thabo Sefalosha
91) Tim Duncan his bad start counts as much as his current play. I'd expect Duncan to climb out of this list.
90) Anderson Verajao
89T) Kevin Martin, Kenneth Faried

Other Spurs, and remember these are the top 100 players with qualified minutes.
Positive
19) Marco Belinelli
59) Boris Diaw

Negative
87) Jeff Ayres (but surprise!, Ayres is in the top 100 this year, 94th while 93rd is Klay Thompson! and 95th is Jared Sullinger!).

Others mentioned.

15) DeMar Derozen
17) Paul George
20) Anthony Davis
26) Lance Stephenson
Not enough minutes) Eric Bledsoe (and would be tied for 27th if he had the minutes)

"According to Basketball Monster.com’s rankings, that ranks Mills as the 19th player in fantasy basketball (https://basketballmonster.com/PlayerInfo.aspx?i=3040). But don’t be fooled into thinking all of his production is coming due to the injuries. In the last month, he is ranked 52nd and is actually ranked 117th for the entire season, meaning he should be owned in a lot more than the 4.1 percent of leagues in which he is currently owned."

Yeah it will boil down to Goran Dragic, Markief Morris and Patty in that order. But it is a good list for Patty to be in. Proud of the kid. He has immense heart and he is an ultimate team player.

Patty is a freakin bargain at $1 million per year! He's no real playmaker though, but with passing bigs like Duncan and Diaw along with Manu we don't need assists from the PG slot.

Parker took a long time to develop into a strong playmaker and 7-8 assist per game guy. Patty is the extreme version of early TP, all scoring PG very few assists.

Patty's passion and heart reminds me of 2005-2007 Ginobili. Let's hope he stacks up to that level of play.

Goran Dragic will (and should) probably win MIP, but Patty Mills would win Most Surprising Player if such an award existed. I've seen him play several times before this season and never thought he'd produce at this level.

Looks much more cut. Got stronger, lost lbs possibly.
And Pop trusts him, so far...

C'mon, isn't anyone going to talk about Patty's improved ability to score in the lane? Contested floaters, beating guards and bigs off the dribble for layups! He's no longer 'just a shooter'! I guess this was to be expected when you have Tony Parker as your mentor.

I always thought he was a scorer, but he's taken that to a whole new level this year.
