Guys with a legit sprint background will stay faster longer (talking seasons) than just some guy with a quick burst like a 40. Track guys started off as little kids running track, getting in that sort of condition. So because of that conditioning they will maintain/sustain the jets longer than a guy who didn't train for sprinting.

Guys used to running 100-400 are on a whole other level than just some cat with a good first 40. Talking longevity here.

The magazine that is the best source for anything having to with track never listed a 9.5 for Billy Johnson. I look into fast footballers, I keep up on it like in....Jim Thorpe back in the teens....and I;ve never seen a 9.5 for Billy Johnson.

Could it have slipped by myself and a magazine that keeps up on that info......highly unlikely.

Look into Billy Johnson at the DIVIII Championship meet, he's nowhere to be found. Look for 9.5 Billy Johnson on anything having to do with the NCAA.....NOPE!

Williams could have done far more as a trackster, he had that 200 ability also, something none of the others mentioned had. They were more 60/100 except for Charles who was also a hurdler.

There are some relatively slow players that are very hard to catch or cover. Acceleration, which encompasses, starting, stopping, and changing direction is huge. But this can be offset by the ability to read an opponents body language; To feel an off balanced opponent, whether engaged, or in an open field situation.

I talked with some guys who are kneedeep into track like myself. Nobody could find a 9.5 for Billy Johnson. But this was found. I said I had a 9.7 for him well that's about what a 10.62 100m would be. A 9.5 guy is going to run a 10.45ish-10.50. There is no 9.5 for "White Shoes" Johnson.

One more tidbit about Johnson. On Widener University's T&F website, the all-time list in the media guide has him at 10.62 for 100m on 4/17/73. It simply lists him as "White Shoes" Johnson.

I can do that with every school there is. I know this stuff inside and out as does these "guys" I talked to over on a board dedicated to track & field. We are the ones who know this stuff. Stuff like the fastest Oiler ever was tiny Tony Jones out of Texas. Now tell me midget who was the first Longhorn sprinter to make an Olympic 100m final? You don't have a clue and neither does SI.
