I love me some scrap, though. Just hauled a shitload of #1 ($2.88#) and #2 ($2.70#) copper last week I had been saving all year until winter time (It's always higher after the snow falls in the North) and cleared 23K.

I just got $22 and change for a stove. I live close enough to a Nucor mini-mill that hauling is cheap and there's enough local competition to keep prices competitive. Other places may be able to fleece customers easier.

I understood what was TRYING to be said. 1.) a perfectly good tractor compared to crap that doesn't work isn't the same at all. If you are looking at it from a "business" aspect then you would realize that a "perfectly good tractor" can be sold because of it's value. It's unlikely that he is going to get the same kind of return on an old fridge that doesn't work. 2.) He was never going to try and sell it for scrap on his own. Instead he was just going to push it out to the curb for bulk pickup. Instead, he gives this guy a chance to profit off of it.
3.) back to your John Deer, burning it to the ground would cost you the price of fuel (to burn it), clean up materials once it is burned and the hauling away of the end result. So, it would really be way more expensive than letting someone else pick it up and haul it off.

I like how people are in school and learning something and can't wait to let everyone know. Either that or they took a couple of CC classes one time a few years ago.
