I don't think we ever really understood how talented the deep bench was before this season. Brown, Ayres and Baynes are horrible.

Meh, at least he isn't scared to shoot and he has a better all around game (except defense).
All I said about Granger was that he isn't done or anything and it's not much of a stretch to think that he can come back and be a vital player on a championship-caliber team.

Ayres isn't an NBA player, neither is Brown, tbh..
Shannon Brown was worth a signing, he's a proven NBA vet at a reasonable age, Spurs had nothing to lose, but it's evident that he has nothing left..he can't shoot from outside 5 feet, he has never been a great ball-handler or passer, and his defense has fallen off a cliff..
On to the next attempt, tbh..Austin Daye, I suppose..

De Colo probably won't see much action in Toronto since they're five guards deep but it really takes a clueless GM to trade an expiring for a garbage player who has another year left on his contract.

Clearly the FO knows nothing.
Shannon Brown just came in and started playing. He's had zero workouts with the team. Of course he looks like shit, he's the odd man out and it lost as fuck but he puts in some minutes and tries. At least he gets back on defense and stops the break, that's more than a lot of players do. Danny Green has been a shithole himself much of the season, stealing Boris' disappearing on offense act.

At the end of the day, worst case Daye is the 15th guy on the roster at what basically amounts to the league minimum. Could have minor cap implications heading into the summer, but I'd rather take a flyer on him than re-sign De Colo for another couple of years.
He basically became an expiring for future trade purposes at 4:01pm on Thursday as well. Can take back his salary in a deal and team getting him can buy him out at 1/4 the cost.
I don't love the deal, but don't think it was mindless by any means.

i can't name 10 nba player the whole league these guys are better than. they are better than Thabeet though. he's horrible.

That's because you watch them all the time and the bench actually plays minutes. Other teams have shitty players as well, they often don't get many minutes and you probably don't ever watch them.
Spurs are 2nd in the conference, and a lot of that credit is to the bench. Most end-of-bench players are barely NBA quality.

no doubt the injuries in combination with Pop's wizardry gives the third tier players more playing time to showcase their basketball brilliance.

The Spurs are running the floor with 4 to 5 guys who could be labeled 15th guy. The Spurs don't normally start the season with 15 guys so consider him the 14th guy and that's just wasting a roster spot. The Spurs don't trade expirings unless they're unhappy and they don't do buyouts. He's basically replacing Bonner next year and he will be here for the duration of his contract. If he shoes how unhappy he is, the best the Spurs could get in return is basically table scraps. So much for actully upgrading players and positions. RC is just replacing junk with junk.
Btw, BEST case scenario is he's 15th guy on the roster. Worst case scenario is he plays 15+ minutes a game and craps the bed like so many 15th men on the Spurs roster, seeing rotational minutes, have done before him.
It's pretty much the bud of a joke when the trade deadline/speculation thread starts and everybody starts talking about how the Spurs are going to trade in some of their useless junk for a productive player and then reality sets in hours before the deadline that it's impossible.

Right. Funny how people thought we would actually get a useful player without giving up our first rounder. Team hopefully thought the buyout market would be more lucrative than scraps it could pick up in a trade. Just glad they didn't give up any assets for Daye.

The guy isn't even that bad. Considering no Training camp, and scarce practices. I mean the first game he appeared in, he started lol. We've definitely had some worse players for the squad!.....The guy is athletic and that's something the spurs desperately need.

Funny how that scrawny looking bitch never reported us getting Brown but as soon as an east coast team gets their hands on him, he's all over it. Oh well, hope we get Grainger now.

Brown was not bad considering the circumstances he was placed in. Imo, he was brought in as just another body to pass the ball to. Anything else he did was a plus. You could tell he looked shy on the offensive end. He looked to pass as soon as it was passed to him. There were some spans where he looked to ISO, but wasn't comfortable. And he was learning the plays on the fly. You could see the players on the floor telling him where to go, where to set screens. He just didn't have time to develop in the "system". And T-mac, he only played when the game was outta hand. I don't think he scored one point with us.

T-Mac would have been a good role player if we signed him earlier in the year to give him time to learn the system/not play with our scrubs.
