Look, I appreciate Diaw and his new found "aggressiveness" but lets be real.. this dude misses just as many layups as Green does.

I'll admit I fucked up there.. but don't act like it's a retarded take. Green's defense makes it close

Except Diaw is shooting 55% from the field (and 42.4% from 3) which is well above average even for big men who live around the rim, and defensively Diaw is as useful as a post defender as Green is as a wing defender.

If Injuries are not taken into account and only on play record, plus role is considered [including Defense + Offense] -

1) Duncan, 2) Manu, 3) Mills , 4) Diaw, 5) Green, 6) Parker, 7) Leonard, 8) Belinelli, 9) Splitter, 10) Bonner, 11) Joseph, 12) Baynes, 13) Ayres, 14) Brown.

Reasons -

a) Parker's defense has been the worst on the team. Partly because he is coasting and preserving for the post-season.
b) Mills, Diaw & Belinelli have been revelations, but Belinelli's defense has sucked and he is pushed behind therefore.
c) Joseph has been anti-Parker. Pathetic at offense.
d) Splitter has played well whenever he has played, but has been out of rhythm while coming off minor injuries.
e) Bonner has also played well within limitations.
f) Leonard has had a slow start to offense and that pushes him back in the standings.

Ranked in order of importance if we want to have a shot this season:

Irreplaceable
Duncan/Parker

Key, but we could miss one of them against a 1st/2nd round opponent and survive:
Leonard/Splitter/Green/Manu

Important, should play well if we get past the 2nd round:
Diaw/Mills/Beli/Cojo

the rest are only burning minutes, so it doesn't really matter. It doesn't look much different than when the season started.

Duncan is having a better season than Parker thus far and it really isn't close Duncan plays on both ends of the court.

Ranking them based on importance in the playoffs.

Must to get past the 2nd round.
1. Duncan
2. Parker
3. Leonard, mainly because we lack an SF.

5. Green
6. Diaw
7. Splitter
8. Belli.

Nice thread idea.

1. Duncan
2. Parker
3. Leonard
4. Green
5. Mills
6. Splitter
7. Manu
8. Diaw
9. whoever else doesn't matter after this point

My rankings are not as much based on talent (otherwise of course it would be the Big 4 and then Splitter), but based on contribution so far, or lack thereof based on injuries, and how we've performed without the player. So guys like Green and Leonard are high, whereas guys like Manu are lower, since we didn't really miss the 3 or 4 extra turnovers per game.

Maybe it's just me, but the 1ppg/1rpg while being a huge liability on defense makes it extremely difficult for me to say "STILL BETTER THAN AYRES THOUGH."

I mean it was just a month ago when Ayres was averaging decent 4th big stats while playing solid defense on the likes of Anthony Davis. I really, really doubt Daye will ever do anything along the lines of that. But hey, I'll eat the crow whenever it's served.

I don't get anyone who has Mills in their top seven. Personally, he's ninth on my list after Beli.

Big Three
Medium Three
Small Three (Diaw, Beli and Mills or Joseph)
Tiny Three (Buyout Candidate or Bonner, Mills or Joseph, Ayres)
Microscopic Three (Bonner or Brown, Baynes, Daye)

Need all the top seven to play well, plus two of the next five.

I won't quibble about exact placement, but the top 8 on your list represent the playoff rotation with the exception of the minutes behind Parker which will be filled by Mills or Joseph if they're not absorbed by Manu.

They'll only be filled by Ginobili in an emergency scenario, whereby Mills is either injured or flames out. Since it's a virtual lock that Joseph will do the latter, they'll be forced to go backup PG less defensively (let's face it, Ginobili already is the backup PG offensively), both out of necessity and in order to get their best players on the floor. Barring that, if it's a limited to almost no small ball series, Belinelli will be utilized sparingly.

I have no doubt that Mills will be Parker's backup in Game 1, Round 1 and will remain so as long as he can hold his own.

In the playoffs, at least, the rankings should depend on the matchups. Splitter was far more important than Diaw against the Mavs and Blazers, but Diaw is better against the Thunder.
