i've asked about this, there's no substance behind it. i was at qualcomm this year, a shitty stadium, and they were pumping noise. is there any credence to the accusations that they pump in more noise than others? everytime i bring it up i get crickets

i've tried to read up on it and most say its the stadium design, since the stands are more vertically stacked than horizontally spread out

"Well, it was built to be a great home field advantage," says Paul Greisemer, principal architectural director at AECOM, the firm that designed CenturyLink." The fact that it is loud is really kind of a result of a number of things that came about just through the design. It's on a very small site, comparatively to other stadiums, and because of that we had to compress the building very tightly. Fans are closer to the field than they are in most any NFL stadium today. So that combined with the desire to have a large roof covering, so fans are protected, really kind of combined the greatest of convergence of storms into a great environment."

Beyond the design, the materials used to build the stadium also contribute to the roar.

"It's a metal roof so it naturally is a very reflective surface. As is the seating bowl which is largely concrete. So there are a lot of those materials that are serving as sound mirrors, if you will, and bouncing the sound right back."

I asked Paul what where the loudest part of the stadium is.

"Luckily, it's right on the field, it seems, from all of the false starts that the visiting teams experience. The way the roof is angled, and the way the bowl captures all the sound that goes backwards and focuses it back towards the center of the stadium, you're pretty much going to get the maximum affect right at the players."

again, i asked specifically whether or not their "artificial noise" is empirically any worse than anywhere else. heck in the superbowl, which was on a neutral field, the crowd was way louder when denver had the ball than seattle. i don't even think i was able to hear "omaha" once during the broadcast

Architect James Poulson says he didn’t set out to design the stadium so noise would be enhanced. Rather, he calls it “a happy accident.”

He says Seahawks owner Paul Allen wanted to re-create the feeling of attending games in the University of Washington’s Husky stadium. So, the architect designed cantilevered decks and a partial roof covering. He says when choosing between sound absorbing materials and hard surfaces they went with hard surfaces.

“Those hard surfaces are positioned perfectly to deflect the crowd noise back onto the field,” he said.

We've all watched Wilson come from way back to take the lead vs Atlanta, we've all watched him move the chains on third down. We've all seen him turn a nothing into something due to his miobility. I'm not sure where Manziel is going to land--wherever he is, he would be wise to learn to quell the outspoken ways. Gain the trust of his team and have them get your back. I don't know if he'll be the white Russess Wilson, but if he shows improvement in the maturity level and has a good team around him it may be possible.
