I will be in town Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. What's going down? Anything special or anything out of the ordinary?
It is my mom's birthday on Friday too, any recommendations?
Any sporting events or concerts for me Saturday or Sunday?

Any recommendations on what to do or where to visit would be appreciated.
Thanks! :king

And they're off! Thoroughbred racing returns to Retama Park this weekend with a couple of stakes races — Friday night's $40,000, six-furlong J.R. Straus Memorial Stakes and Saturday's $50,000 Margarita Breeders' Cup Handicap. The 43-night season, which runs through Oct. 15, features a $4,000 increase in purses per night plus two new bargain betting options — 10-cent superfectas and $1 minimum bets. Post times are at 6:45 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 5:30 p.m. Sunday through Sept. 4. The track shifts to a Wednesday-Saturday schedule starting Sept. 7; all post times are 6:45 p.m. General admission costs $2.50; $1.50 for ages 62 and older; free to active-duty and retired military and ages 15 and younger. Parking costs $2. The track is on Interstate 35 in Selma; call (210) 651-7000 or go to www.retamapark.com.

San Antonio Express-News

Scotti G, also known as Scott G. Cunningham, is unveiling a new photographic series, "San Antonio by Night," at El Sol Studios during a laid-back First Friday in Southtown.

Considering himself old school in his use of film, Scotti G takes a romantic view of the city, including soft-focus shots of the River Walk.

Other First Friday events:

John Mata has new works called "Fundamentalism Begins with the Right Accessory" opening in Gallery 4 at the Blue Star Contemporary Art Center.

Emerging artist Jonathan Cowan is making his debut at the Cactus Bra Space. Works by Oscar Garcia, Tanya Kulhanek, Tracy Durland and Dani Dickson are at the Jewelry Box Art Gallery.

New digital images by Ned Meneses go on view at Artereyes Contemporary Art.

Xavier Garza, David Mercado, Carolina Flores and Albert Ramirez are among the artists in "Chulas y Cholos" at Casa Margarita Gallery.

Joan Grona is having a reception for Suzanne Paquette, Tom Hollenback, Derrick Durham, Eduardo Rodriguez and Tom Willome.

Thoroughbred racing sounds great. I think we will go to that on Satuday.
Good looking out.

I take it you've never been to SA. Too busy talking up those 37 year old guys pretending to be 14 year old girls on AOL chat. Huh?

What exactly is first friday?

First Friday (http://sanantonio.citysearch.com/feature/11632)

What could be better than wall-to-wall art, with plenty of live music and good vibes on the side? Thank goodness for First Friday—San Antonio's own monthly art walk, filling Southtown-area galleries with fresh art and the streets with patrons and perusers. Most openings fall within the 6pm-10pm range, and most galleries are located within walking distance of South Alamo, between Durango and Probandt streets. Art lovers are invited to wander from art space to art space along the trail, rubbing elbows with local bands and artisans selling jewelry on the curb. And the best part? It's FREE.

First Friday began as an art walk. Now it is more of a block party/meet market/art party/an excuse to have a good time. I've had fun everytime I've gone down there. Sometimes we hit the galleries, sometimes we hit Blue Star for some awesome beer. And well, sometimes we just eat good food.

It is pretty awesome. Jess and I will be there tomorrow.
