The NBA has considered adding a four-point line, as Rod Thorn said that the concept has "come up" in discussions.
"Oh man," Thorn told Abbott, "Some of the players we have can shoot the ball 30 feet as easily as they can shoot 23, 24 feet."
Thorn remembers how good Vince Carter could shoot from well beyond the three-point line.
"I remember when we had Vince Carter in New Jersey," Thorn said. "Well, he could shoot the ball from the seats and make half of 'em."
A four-point line would spread the floor as well.
"In the NBA, we just clogged up the middle and dared teams to shoot from the outside," Alex Hannum said. "Nobody bothered to guard anyone 20 feet from the basket, but the 3-point play really did open up the middle...No other rule made the game more wide open and more fun to watch."

I would love a 4pt line but idk about you guys

Jimmer needs this badly to salvage his career

Antoine Walker is rolling in his grave.

But really, I would only support a 4-point shot if you had to shoot it from halfcourt to get the 4 points. A 30-foot 4-point line would be broken for guys like Durant.

Edit: the expanded court is a more feasible option. Phil Jackson lobbied for this too. It would make relying on corner 3s a thing of the past if it was the same distance as the rest of the arc. Actually, one quick fix the league should make is to just cut off the 3-point line at the sideline so that the arc is the same distance from the hoop everywhere. Obviously a corner shot would then only be worth 2 points.

Jamal Crawford's PPG would be so inflated with a 4-point line :lol

League would quickly become a joke tbh. The amount of chucking would be ridiculous.

They shouldn't "add" ANY line, Just make the current half-court mark your "4pt" area. I honestly couldn't imagine anyone chucking shots from behind half-court, And while many NBA Coaches are bad - There's no way in hell they'd allow any player to do that on a regular basis lol.

There is more than enough symbolism now in professional sports.

He would probably average 3 ppg instead of 2 ppg

Yeah there's still plenty of space in the corner area for a 4pt line. The width between 3pt line and the sideline in the corner is still far longer than the length of a shoe, isn't it?

It would be a boon for players like Durant and Curry, especially the former as a flop could easily lead to 4 free throws.

Why not? The league is already weak as shit and gimmicky as fuck.

Scoring is already inflated with the now-expected and unquestioned phantom calls and rampant flopping. Why not a 4 pointer?

Hell, why not a 5-point shot?

What we really need is an older school, more hardcore league featuring rules that aren't so biased against defense. If you're too much of a weakass to score 26 points a game without zebra bullshit then too bad.

And for the love of god, crashing your body head-on into a defender that has been in position in the lane for 2 seconds isn't a defensive foul and neither is jumping into a defender after you fake them into the air.

The NBA is so fucking faggoty right now that a 4-point shot can't make it any worse.

They should take points off for every flop, Clippers and OKC would have 30 point games

Let's be real though, CPflop is probably the biggest flopper in the league followed by Durant lol

Lillard would be unstoppable. He has the most range in the league.
