Kobe plays for a big market team. As good as Kobe is, media who vote for most of those Awards favor big market players and overrate them. Kobe isn't a second option. He was just a second option early in his career. Once he kicked Shaq out of LA, he became a first option. At that point, you can fairly compare him to Duncan. Duncan never had any years with a Shaq-level talent. It's entirely probably he would have two or three more championships had that been the case.

not true because after Shaq he had Gasol...so the question is how can a 2nd option be better than a 1st option...and how good does a 2nd option have to be to be compared to the basketball god MJ...amazing turn of events eh? :lol

If Duncan went to the Heat and threepeated, he'd be on the same level as threepeat Kobe--just at age 40.

Gasol was a second option on that team. The only time Kobe ever semi-deferred was to Shaq. He would never defer to Gasol. And FYI, it's much easier for a second option, like Scottie Pippen, to load up accomplishments riding the coattails of great players, then it is for first options to lead teams, especially when they don't have superstar running mates. So many of the accolades Kobe achieved, can be attributed to the help he received from Shaq. For example, Kobe, while a decent defender, was on the all defensive team so many times because he had Shaq behind him to block shots and because he played in LA, where they overrate the players.

How many rings does MJ have without Pippen vs how many Kobe has without Shaq :hat

Again with the apples to oranges comparisons. You can't compare MJ with Pippen to Kobe w/out Shaq because there was never a time when MJ played in his prime without Pippen. Obviously I see why people rarely engage you because you start 100 threads on Kobe v. everybody and then you rely on false equivalents to justify your thoughts. You start the thread saying Kobe is a No. 2 (presumably to try and jab Duncan's accomplishments when every other thread you argue he is a top 5 best player of all time). Then you compare Kobe w/out Shaq (Kobe had just reached his prime when Shaq left) to Jordan, a clear no. 1 w/out Pippen. If you think Kobe is a number 2 option, then you should be comparing Gasol to Jordan, not Kobe. If the idea is that Kobe is a number two option with Shaq and Gasol as the number 1s, then you should only compare Kobe to Pippen. If that is the case, then the question is how many championships did Kobe, as the No. 2, win without a No. 1 as a teammate versus how many championships did Pippen win without Jordan. The answer for both is zero, though Pippen made it a lot further in the playoffs with the Bulls when Jordan retired for two years then Kobe made between the years without Shaq and before Gasol joined the team.

^ all that rambling incoherency bull ass shit is boiled down to:

MJ played 3 yrs in his prime without Pippen....:lol MJ joined in 84 Pip joined in 87....all prime MJ yrs...if Kobe's first 3yrs are held against him then it's all gravy baby :hat

Duncan is great. But bull shit. His flat arc on his jumper and unorthodox flips in the lane are not fundamental or "text-book" . he is amazingly effective but Kobe actually has a better fundamental post-game and Duncan is on of the best low post scorers ever. But if you were to tape a how to video you would take Kobe. But Duncan is an absolute beast and AMAZINGLY Effective.

Keep telling me how one of, if not the best post defender other than Olajuwon is not fundamental… when his name is Mr….. Fundamental

Kobrick has a more fundamental post game than Tim Duncan? LMAO...the same Kobrick that has never seen a shot attempt he didn't like? The same illegal scizzor kick move Kobrick that cant post up anyone in the paint over 6 foot tall without throwing his feet out to kick a player on his fadeaway...those fundamentals?
