Can't get authentic Mexican food in SA. You can get good Tex Mex though. Anything authentic is almost inedible. Mi Tierra is ok. Not too pricey. With only 2 hours you probably should get something close to the Airport (assuming you're flying in).

Indeed, either some place close to the airport or close by the main hospital/trauma ctr. If Mi Tierra is close by I'll check it out. Danke

If you want the best Mexican food there is to offer in Texas and probably the country, take an additional hour and a half flight to the valley imo.

The location of a deadly officer-involved shooting Friday, Chacho's and Chalucci's, has long list of police presence requests since the beginning of 2013.

SAN ANTONIO -Since Jan. 5, 2013 there have been more than 130 calls for police service at Chachos and Chalucci’s on Perrin Beitel near I-410.
The most recent, an officer-involved shooting early Friday morning. The shooting left 23-year-old Marquise Jones dead. The officer, six-year veteran Robert Encina, was placed on administrative duty during the investigation.
People who frequent the restaurant or live nearby had mixed emotions about the number of calls.

"I love the place I think its very fun. You can go in have drinks socialize and the times I've been there, there have been no problems,” said Cedrick Toles.
The calls range from fights, assaults, thefts and shootings.
"I don't really go there now because I've seen police officers there so I try to stay away from it," Elias Moore said.
Aaron Sewell has lived in the area on and off for years. He believes the high volume of calls stems from the restaurant being open 24 hours.
"It depends on the time I would think. I think the weekends, late night or most the times is when something has happened but during the day I've never encountered anything," said Sewell.
KSAT reached out to the restaurant's management, but they declined to comment. KSAT also reached out to their corporate office but didn’t get an answer.

You can get awesome authentic Mexican (e.g., cochinita pibil, mole poblano, pipian, pozole, tortas, huitlacoche, etc) at a place called Cascabel's Mexican Patio, but it's downtown and closes at 4PM.

Mi Tierra is downtown and not that good. Texas Land & Cattle makes a good bloody strip steak for $20 and is on 410 just west of the airport.

http://www.texaslandandcattle.com/find-a-txlc-location/?by=City&k=san%20antonio#search

But for authentic Mexican the place in the previous post is the only one I know in San Antonio that's good, and it's obviously not a realistic option. For Tex Mex I really don't know. Of my two former go-to Tex-Mex places on that side of town, one closed a few years ago and the other got shitty.

For Tex Mex in that time frame I'd probably go to Las Palapas on Evers, South of the airport on 410. Haven't been in a while but it was there last time I was down that way.

Are their plates any good? I like getting breakfast tacos (especially machacado) at Las Palapas, but I have never ordered a plate.

It's been a while but I recall they were pretty good, as far as the same old foods mixed up different ways.

:lol Las Palapas

Their tacos are great but other than that the food sucks. All the good Tex Mex placed I know of are downtown or closed down. Best bet would prolly be Texas Land and Cattle like was mentioned.

There's a little joint near 410/culebra called "Tacos Y Burritos Metro Basilica 2" and it's pretty Mexican (everything is in spanish) and it's delicious imo. Also across the street there's a place called Los Ajos that is good for the price

The best Mexican food is usually served out of food trucks. Fuck a restaurant.

some really horrible suggestions in here aside from maybe 1. you want authentic or you wanna get fucked by the dudes at guajillos spending $3 on a couple slices of avocado? try picante grill off broadway, really great food and as authentic as it gets.... PG is not tex mex, a little pricey but reasonable for the quality you get.

eriks tacos is decent but it's a shit hole trailer off nacodogches
mamacitas is decent too but it ain't nothing special nor authentic
mi tierra is as white tex mex as you can get with the clutter of every horder in the world stuffing their shit into that building
chachos is downright disgusting
guajillos used to be pretty good but their prices are out the roof, service sucks and i swear they have downgraded their quality
etc...

now if you wanna see some nice tits and ass, eat some tex mex(authentic to sa), then head over to ojos locos!

Looks like a great menu. Thanks for the recommendation. But why the hell does every restaurant in San Antonio cheap out on the mole poblano by skipping the mulato chiles? I know they're expensive as hell in Texas, but you gotta have them along with the pasillas and anchos to make the shit like you can get on the other side of the border. Only way I know to get good mole poblano in this city is to go buy the ingredients myself and then spend all day making it.
