Per Ian Rappaport on Twitter.
The #Panthers (https://twitter.com/search?q=%23Panthers) are attempting to trade WR Steve Smith, per source. Given his $7M cap number and age (34), seems unlikely.

Probably gonna be cut, then picked up by New England. That offense needs a little attitude and Steve is a receiver Brady/BB would like imo

I felt the same way about Urlacher last year and Hester this year. I know deep down it's the right move, but I had so much emotional investment into both players that it makes it hard to accept. I too can't see Smith playing for another team.

Stupid stupid move, you cannot replace a Steve Smith. He is the best player that franchise has had.

I'm sure Dez is open to the reduction in the amount of double and triple coverage's he sees on a game to game basis.
