View Full Version : Lakers: SI: Kobe wants a new Laker coach next year

StrengthAndHonor
03-12-2014, 05:10 PM
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith reported on Wednesday morning that he had heard D’Antoni would be out, and that the Lakers’ potential pursuit of free-agent Carmelo Anthony would be the reason.

But multiple sources told Sporting News that the reason for D’Antoni’s potential dismissal is closer to home—star guard Kobe Bryant.

Bryant, sources said, has “no interest” in playing for D’Antoni next season, and wants a new coach in place for the 2014-15 season.

And people still think other players - much less top flight free agents - want to play with K. Bryant?

I can hear a collective phrase ringing throughout NBA land..."I have no interest in playing with K. Bryant."

Poor Kirby, always a drama queen.

The irony is is that his greatest strength, what drives him to compete, is his greatest weakness.

You ain't winning 10 rings dawg, it's going to end sooner rather than later.

Lakers better pursue Irving as their primary target tbh. Melo is good but he & Kobe both need the ball in their own hands in order to be efficient, so I doubt they could get along smoothly. Meanwhile my nigga Irving, if joining the Lakers, would be the best PG the franchise has got since Magic, not to say Irving would cost much less than Melo would which means the Lakers could use the left money to sign a few solid role players.

Rogue

Plus, my nigga is about 10yrs younger than Melo and his ceiling is in the sky, dude would soon grow into the league's best guard under the guidance of Kobe who is God, tbh.

Kobe has every reason to want D'antoni gone. He's just not a good leader. His passive-aggressiveness comes out in interviews, press conferences. Not a great quality for a coach. On top of that, he's shown an impressive ability to not adapt his system to the strengths of his players. Fredo should have known better. And anybody who says hiring him was Jerry Buss' final wish for the Lakers is certifiable. Either Jerry Buss was too far gone to make a clear decision, or Fredo is using the story as cover. No way a coherent Buss makes that hire.

PJ did call him "uncoachable" and "selfish" at one point, even saying that he wouldn't return to the lakers if Kobe was till there during the Shaq fiasco so its pretty clear how much Kobe is to blame even though Dantoni is shit.

"We worked for a half-hour on (defense)," D'Antoni retorted. "You're starting to (expletive) me off. You're starting to (expletive) me off because you're saying something that's not factually correct. "

Or you guys can just hire a puppet coach (like Jason Kidd) and let God coach himself, tbh. Pop is the only coach that's good enough to coach God but no way would he leave the Spurs.

Serious question, in what capacity will kobe's game even be relevant when he comes back.

He literally plays the complete opposite of how the NBA is now for the most part, he is a slow it down player with no athleticism left who needs post ups and isolation basketball to thrive. The championship level teams all run, play small ball, move the ball and look for the best shot available. It really is incredible how Duncan has outlasted Kobe tbh

SpurSwag
03-13-2014, 10:51 AM
I don't really know if Kobe can properly adjust his game and still be an elite player either. He needs to go back to the facilitator role he made sure to make a huge deal of either last year or the year before when everyone was calling him Kobe Johnson (so gay). His chucking just won't cut it anymore.

This overrated idiot's career FG% is 45.4%. Is that anything to write home about? I think not, considering that Monte Ellis' career shooting percentage is 45.5%. Yet Ellis has the reputation of a gunner, and Bryant has the reputation of being some kind of "great" player, which he isn't.

The truth is, both are simply volume shooters.

Career Numbers:

K. Bryant: FG 45.4%...Assists 4.8...Turnovers 3.0

Monta Ellis: FG 45.5%...Assists 4.8...Turnovers 2.8

That might end up happening. If Phil is in NY, Kobe for Melo might happen. Melo isn't going to take anyone to the promised land, but Phil has the power to get more help in NY and if the Lakers can dump Kobe for Melo, Phil can dump Melo and retire Kobe to some shitty minutes in meaningless moments or just waive him after it's obvious he cannot play the game. Or maybe Kobe can play and becomes a decent spot up shooter. Either way, Lebron is a free agent after this year and I halfway expect some major movement in the league. The Lakers won't remain useless for long, too much money involved so other teams will collude to get the excitement back into LA where their profit sharing money originates.

I don't see Phil doing that tbh...

It was hard enough for him to deal with Kobe while he was actually good...now its just Kobe's inflated ego minus any skill or talent.

Also, I think the Knicks brought Phill in so they could keep Melo, in a sad attempt to illustrate that they aren't a complete joke of a franchise.

With money as an underlying goal, trades and moves might not make competitive sense, but there's a method to it. We've seen plenty of trades that seemed to be brain farts and never once have we seen the books where money gets transferred.
