WTF did I just watch tbh? I have been living under a rock due to working more hours than usual at the clinic. I had almost no idea what this film was about, just that it had something to do with Matthew Mccounaghey losing a ton of weight. Never in my life have I seen a shittier film than this with the exception of the time I watched Freddie Got Fingered for about 15 minutes.

This is just another pathetic attempt to push the gay agenda, and tbh I am one of the few people who doesn't give a fuck about their agenda (neither for it or against it, dont give a shit tbh). I have absolutely no fucking idea how Jared Leto won an Oscar...a FUCKING Oscar over that easy ass performance of a tranny. How hard is it for a bisexual to act like a fuckin tranny fag? He had a total of 20 minutes actual screen time and they were all shit.

Mccounaghey himself had a decent performance but the movie itself was just an epic fail. Absolutely no take home message, nothing special about the overall theme. Maybe only that the FDA is corrupt, shit I learned in undergrad.

Apparently the Oscars have now just become a political garbage show

gay-related movies are always preferred by Oscar and hence are more likely to win out imho, brokeback mountain, Milk, and this one, and many to follow. And I'd be surprised if anyone told me it was after this film that she/he realized that Oscar is pure dogshit. Oscar has been shit for years and that's why the true greats never win or even get nominated for it (examples like Arnold and Goddess who've never been nominated for shit, and Downey/Cruise/Pitt... who got nominated multiple times but never won)

I watched it and thought it was a good film but didn't really figure it was trying to push the gay agenda? There's lots of gays in it but the main character is straight and HIV/AIDs, while having high prevalence in gays isn't solely a gay virus...

It used to be just a gay virus, but they weren't content enough to just keep it among themselves.

I agree that Leto's performance was overrated...Fassbender got robbed.

Matthew mcconeghey basically ran a long con inn the academy. Played these masculine roles over the years. Kept himself as a model straight guy. Just so he could get his award on a gay film. Damn brilliant.

You're an idiot....
The "gay" agenda....really, I just watched Expendables 1 and 2 over the weekend....damn "gun and violence" agenda....
The acting was spot on, from both Matt and Jared. Watch more movies bro and you can look past the "agendas" or "underlying liberal" messages and look for the acting, direction, production and effort that makes a movie a great movie. The scene with Jared looking into the mirror and emoting was what sealed the award. Also, name me 2 better performances that year?
The overall theme wasn't to change the laws, or viewpoints of people as you can tell from the majority of the threads on this site that being "gay" is still frowned upon and looked like a pariah. It's about these characters living with the disease and finding solace in the darkness.

I don't think it had anything to do with the Gay agenda. I think it was about a man who contracted a disease he was in denial about because it was ignorantly labeled a gay related disease, and how he overcame it and how his outlook changed not because of his acceptance of gays, but because he was in the realm of reality where near death causes people to see more clearly the things that matter. He didn't care about the law and didn't care about gay rights. He just cared about staying alive.

HIV has nothing to do with Gays. It's just spread more easily through their form of sex and drug use than through females or heterosexual intercourse. Matt killed it, flat out.

If anything it says Gays couldn't do anything to help themselves and it took a straight (yeah right) man to finally get the balls rolling on finding a cure/treatment and getting the FDA to move.

Actually the rumors about the IRL dude was that he's been Magic Johnsoned a few times. His "I'm straight" thing was mostly to keep the majority of the audience from walking out.

I think some people are just butt hurt over the love that this movie got at during awards season. The movie is fantastic and has a good message. McConnahey's character didn't accept defeat. He did whatever it took to live and fight the disease that he thought was a gay man's disease. He was definitely deserving of the Oscar that he won.

Its a matter of opinions. The gay agenda was very subtle here but it was clear to me

1) The main character hates homosexuals in the beginning, AIDS is only seen as a gay disease
2) He gets the "Faggot disease" and his friends disown him
3) He hates Jared Leto's character because hes a tranny
4) When the guy goes to introduce himself at the AIDs support group he freaks out
5) He becomes friends with Jared Leto
6) He sees Jared Leto's character has more layers than what he though
7) He confronts his "dumb fuck" ignorant homophobic friend at the market and forces him to shake Jared Leto's hand
8) He becomes an unsung hero in the gay community
9) It shows you the vulnerability and human side of these people
10) Ultimately the message is we are not so different, despite our sexual preferences

That's what I took from the film...but I understand the temptation to think otherwise

Not saying they would, but part of filmmaking is budget and part of that is profitability. That means knowing your audience. It's why some films don't show blood when there should be, in order to maintain their PG-13 rating.

Had the film been about a blatant homosexual who contracted HIV and fought to live, people would have been like "meh". You don't have to like it, but who's going to invest in a movie just for the humanity aspect? It's a profit driven business. The large majority of people aren't homosexuals so they cannot relate not only to being Gay, but the feminine tranny life style of a confused homosexual male. You'll notice it was about males, not females. What award winning movie has been made about female homosexuals?

I was a bit disappointed by the turn of events since I had no idea what the movie was about. As soon as they told him he had HIV I was like "great, another feel sorry for the faggot movie".

You have to know how to read between the ass cheeks;

The award had nothing to do with the movie - Leto just acted normally. The award was for his everyday portrayal of a straight guy while he works in hollywood.

You are welcome.

LOL calling this a movie about the gay agenda when Hollywood censored the story and turned Ron Woodruff to a rodeo cowboy who fucked lots of bitches when he was really a homo (not bi, but gay) who got rammed by lots of dicks. I thought McCoughnaghy was awesome in the role but the writing was bullshit. LOL leaving out the fact that AZT is a very successful drug in HIV cocktails that allow HIV+ people to live normal lives now. LOL absolutely none of the drugs the Dallas Buyers Club promoted worked or are even used anymore. Typical Hollywood bullshit where they gotta make somebody the bad guy (in this case, the FDA and the doctors doing double-blind studies with AZT) to get an emotional response to the movie. I swear the only supposed non-fiction Hollywood ever made that was even remotely close to the truth was Casino.

Its really hard to let me down when it comes to movies. I download all my shit off torrents so I never feel the movie 'owes' me anything. Its really really difficult to let me down. This is one of the first films in a long time to let me down. Im usually the guy that advises my friends to see a film and they later tell me it was 'ok'. I thought it was just too gross of a film. Also I like Jared Leto in Lord of War and Fight Club. His acting was solid in this film but it was not oscar material imo. Oscars have lost their way.
