Spurs shoot for 14 straight against spiraling 76ers
By Associated Press

Gregg Popovich has begun taking advantage of any opportunities to rest his veteran stars as the regular season winds down. The spiraling Philadelphia 76ers might have liked their chances more if the San Antonio Spurs coach hadn't done that in his previous game.

Would you drop $12k to win $100 that the Spurs win tonight? I wouldn't.

I would not at all be surprised to see Pop throw this game. The fans may love the winning streak, but the coaches probably hate it. Hard to get the team's attention when everything is going right. Not to mention he could prevent his buddy, Brett Brown, from getting tagged with the longest NBA losing streak ever (76ers currently stand at 24 losses, the record is 26).

I don't think Pop will sit anybody, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Big 4 sitting longer than usual, some whacky rotations, and maybe even a Bonner-Errors combo that should all but guarantee Philly a W.

And then, the meltdown will be in full effect and all will be normal again.

I highly doubt Pop is looking to throw one of the few remaining easy games on our schedule when we're only 2 games ahead of OKC for the 1st seed.

Pop throwing this game without resting half the team would be his greatest coaching accomplishment tbh.

I wonder if this is some sort of "record" as far as two teams headed in opposite directions meeting- 24 straight losses meeting 13 straight wins?
Something like 37 games difference

Pop doesn't give one flying fuck about seeding.

If it comes at the expense of them being healthy and ready for the playoffs, sure. Pop and the team would prefer to have HCA throughout the playoffs...as long as that doesn't mean they go into the playoffs battered and tired from fighting so hard to get it.

In tonight's case, getting a win isn't going to place any extra or unnecessary stress on guys. Duncan/Ginobili already sat out on Saturday. The team didn't play last night. Why would Pop randomly give up a game for the hell of it when HCA is well within striking distance?

Because he's Pop? :lol

Idk, I gave up trying to understand the man a long ass time ago. We'll see how he plays it tonight. I'm guessing he plays everyone, but just puts their minutes on autopilot.

I think that would be damn near impossible. Philly is SO bad that any of their 5 man units would have a hard time running with our break glass in case of emergency unit of Baynes/Ayers/Cojo/Day/+1.

I'd like for Pop to sit Tony and Boris tonight. They both looked gassed on the B2B.

Pop can try to throw it all he likes, but it's not happening. Philly won't let him. They are not playing for wins, but for ping pong balls. Throwing this game could potentially hurt his buddy. The only thing I can see happening is the Spurs won't bury them.

I know the futility record is not a good thing to be tagged with, but I'm sure no one in Philly is blaming Brett Brown for the Sixers mediocrity. Strangely, with one of the poorest records/performances in the league, Brett Brown's coaching job is probably one of the most secure over the off season.

Technically, the Spurs had no business beating Golden State last weekend.

Technically, but a Spurs team at full strength rolls them. There's only three games left on their schedule that the Spurs won't be favored to win. It would be nice to win two of them.

Literally, nobody would have cared if the Spurs second unit lost to the Warriors but there will be some growing whispers of concern if they get swept by the Pacers, Thunder and Rockets.

Robz4000

Spurs will get up for the Indy game and I expect a win for that one. IMO they lose OKC unless Pop rests the Big 3 the night before at home, which he usually doesn't do. Rockets game is up in the air being the second to last game of the season and may be meaningless.

The Spurs already rested the big three once and two of the big three twice against GS and won. Much rather see them do that again as opposed to the OKC game. Hell, OKC's already down two starters. A full strength Spurs team should win and salt away the #1 seed.

If that's the case, they should go with the old standby, "Flu-like Symptoms", or even "Right Patella Tendinosis".

Form wise, Daye's jumper is pure as fuck...and at his height it is impossible to bother. He is obviously between positions and doesn't have a lot of physicality in him, but the skillset is there to be a rotation player one day.
