A lot of people are named Patty (more frequent in women) in usa. But i see it being more in south usa, like texas. Have you heard of Patty around your area? Seems like a hillbilly, redneck name.

They seriously need to do a Whataburger Patty Melt advertisement with Patty Mills in it. It would be great.

Australia is very Irish, heritage wise.
This is the reason. His name is Patrick and in Great Britain (especially Ireland) the nickname is Patty, which in Ireland is said as "Paddy". The Australia that was part of Great Britain is the reason for this being his nickname.
But oddly, he doesn't look Irish.

He is an indigenous Australian. It would be odd if he does look Irish.

And none of those so called queer names are losers like the Hawks players are out in a weak conference.

I wouldn't overthink the country of original or cultural significance of him being called 'Patty'. It has nothing to do with the Irish or any of that, Aussies just generally give everyone a nickname. Matthew - Matty, Robert - Robbo, David - Dave-o, Patrick - Patty, Aron - Az. It's just what we do...
He is an indigenous Australian. It would be odd if he does look Irish.
I was being facetious, tbh. Sorry, I always forget to put my sarcasm in blue.

:tu The Irish would not shorten Patrick to Patty. Patty is short for Patricia. Paddy is short for Patrick and comes from Padraig, a variant of Patrick. (Ex. It's St. Paddy's Day, not St. Patty's Day)

i always call him Patty Hearst. not to diss him because i think he's a good player off the bench. i'm also not calling him feminine, i'm just so used to the name "patty" being associated with "hearst" in my lifetime haha.

Irish. Reason Australian are rough and alot of Irish names is b/c the English shipped alot of Irish, Welsh, etc prisoners to Australia in the 17-1800's. Remember Mick from Crocodile Dundee. Mick is a an Irish nickname. Same with Patty.
