Still in on Metta, but if the Spurs FO hasn't acted yet then that means they're likely not going to at all.

Wait, can we still pick up FAs and have them be eligible for the POs? Or is it in effect only for the players bought out?

IF Danny Green's injury lasts a bit longer, then we get Metta. If not, no need to. Although, Insurance is always good especially if we need Metta to take care of giving opponents a concussion.

The real question is... Who do we put on the inactive list for the playoffs? If I remember correctly, the players who are inactive cannot be removed from the inactive list during the entirety of the playoffs.. Right?

I think if they were on a team this year then the deadline was a few weeks ago. If they haven't played in the NBA this year then they can still sign and be eligible (like TMac last year)

Ben Gordan. If he's in game shape, he can be a 40% 3 point shooter. He's also a good foul shooter.

03-30-2014, 10:45 PM
BTW he's coming off of a $58 mil 5 year contract the Bulls gave him in 2009. Don't know if Pop will have minutes for Gordan though.

Ben Gordon cannot play in the playoffs. He was cut a day late - so not an option.

Gordon is inelligible for the playoffs. He was SUCH a shithead in Charlotte that they INTENTIONALLY waited until after the deadline to cut him.

They'll pick up a d-leaguer on a deal with an extra year or two appended to it. Or at least they should. I can't think of a reason not to add someone to give them a head start on summer league and training camp. Pittman, maybe? And NBADL PGs who have potential?

everyone on the roster is eligible for every game of the playoffs, at least that is my understanding. I believe they got rid of the ineligible players thing a few years ago.

I've spoken about this with some people who have played with him before. If I was him, I'd be doing everything I could every single day to maximise whatever speed I could. Work on agility, day in and day out, because if he can keep from being a defensive liability he'll get court time.

From my understanding, It doesn't matter when they sign. If they are cut before the deadline, they can play in playoffs with someone else.

Can be signed at any time. http://fansided.com/2014/02/25/nba-rumors-postseasonplayoff-eligibility-rules-waivedbought-players/#!B5TvE

For a player to be eligible to play on a postseason roster, he must be bought out by his team by Saturday, March 1st. The player does not have to sign with his new team by that date. The waived/bought out player can sign with his new team at any point during the regular season and still be eligible to play in the postseason – even down to the last day of the regular season if he wanted to.

SO we could sign pretty much anyone and they would be eligible but not Ben Gordon.

If they haven't played this season they can be eligible or if they were waived prior to that deadline. But Its really to late in the season to do it for us. They'd really only appear in a couple of games.

LOL Lamar Odom. I cannot comprehend a man squandering the opportunities he's had. There are so many men in this country with no opportunity even just his reality show and wife, and to see him squander his life away is just unreal. He will never play in the NBA again, he is not even respected as a man, much less an NBA player.

I still think they're waiting on Howard to get healthy. If he can't, given that Pietrus has supposedly committed to sitting out the remainder of the season, they might settle on someone from the D-League.

Either way, they've got the spot, the tax isn't an issue and they really only have four wing players (only one of which is a true SF), so it makes sense to have another body, just for insurance purposes.

Howard's done, and no dleague player would help a team this deep and good.

Spurs are rolling with what they've got, the starters, the Foreign Legion, and the Break Glass crew.

You either didn't read or didn't comprehend what I wrote.

I don't get this mentality. Why wouldn't you bring in another body, especially if they go the D-League route? It's one more body to eat up minutes as they rest players down the stretch, it's one more body to serve as insurance just in case of multiple wing injuries, it's one more minor salary to throw into a trade just in case, plus it gives them a chance to secure their rights for Summer League. It's all upside with no downside.
