We can't find teams to take our high draft picks and scrub in exchange for their all stars

Front office understands my theory of basketball team construction. Hence no need for a true backup pg or a big. You want length and mobility.
Diaw, Daye, tried to get Kirilenko. In the pipelines, JCL, Bertans, Hanga.
Would the #1 ranked FO had traded away Paul George? I don't think so.

We will see how good they are when Duncan retires. Duncan has carried the front office.

They've still drafted extremely well to surround Duncan with the talent needed to be successful. Obviously Duncan is the biggest reason for success, but let's not act like drafting a guy like Duncan guarantees 4 titles and 15+ straight playoff appearances.

On a non-Spurs forum I frequent, as the rankings were being counted down, that the Spurs would be #1 was accepted by literally everyone as a given.

That is not too good for 15 years to have two all stars and one of those is a fringe all star. Success is directly linked to Duncan ,the best most consistent player in the last 15 years and he has never been injured other then in the 2000 playoffs.
Can you imagine how this place would be if we had a front office like Detroit's?
I don't think 90% of the trolls in this place would exist if we had a front office like Detroit's.

love how spurfan jerks off when media praises them, puts them #1 on the power rankings, etc.
but then when the media says something negative its always "BSPN never gives spurs credit, fucking joke, why do u take them seriously"

You don't need to put down Manu and Parker to elevate Duncan. Nobody here has claimed Duncan isn't the most important part of the Spurs' success, but you can't win a championship in a team sport with one good player.
You don't need to put down the front office to elevate Duncan. Despite Duncan's greatness, many front offices would have failed to build a championship team around him.

I wish more people realized this. If Duncan had been drafted by the Celtics like everyone projected, he would have retired like 4 years ago. They would have had him play too many minutes in the game way after his maximum efficiencies.
The Spurs front office is the best out of any sports franchise, period. Too many seasons of success and a great culture.

The lakers have won five titles during the Duncan years. I would say their front office has done a better job in their moves in building championship teams without the need for lucky balls that resulted in Duncan and also Robinson. Spurs success directly linked to lottery luck-Duncan.

This is all going to change when Duncan retires. You will see how good the front office is when the team goes through some very bad years. I am not expecting much from the current front office without getting a lucky break with a franchise player in the lottery.

Shaq went to LA because of Hollywood. The Spurs are lucky the front office + David were able to convince Tim not to go to Orlando.

I wouldn't suspect us to be at the tops of the western conference when Duncan retires, but I don't see us going under .500 either. Even without Duncan, we have enough pieces to be a playoff contending team especially in today's weaker NBA. Our front office has been pretty damn good with finding good pieces and diamonds in the rough to help build around.

I see a below .500 team without Duncan. People don't realize how good and important Duncan is to the team.
