We've all talked about the Spurs being "under the radar" over this very impressive run as the MOST WINNING TEAM OF ALL TEAM SPORTS FOR THE LAST SEVENTEEN YEARS!! Took a visit to nba.com today and read the "Top Stories" which were mostly about last night's game. 'Durant scores 27 against the Pelicans' 'Heat send message to Pacers' etc.
Noticed one thing, rather conspicuously missing. THE SPURS CLINCH THE SPOT AS THE #1 TEAM IN THE NBA!!

In fact spurs fans manage to whine and bitch about the media no matter what happens. If they start talking about the spurs it's "you guys haven't talked about us for years and now you're riding on our band wagon? GTFO"

This incessant victim syndrome by spurs fans gets nauseating. Man I get what you mean, but it's so weird that it wouldn't be newsworthy that any team just secured the best record of the year. :lol Obviously the Spurs' anonymity is largely self imposed. Pop's interviews alone are not exactly media friendly. Perhaps the Spurs winning so much is just so run of the mill that mentioning they have clinched the NBA for the best record is ho-hum.

It it pretty hilarious how nba.com and espn have practically said nothing about us getting the number one overall seed for the playoffs. Oh well, so is life as a Spurs' fan. If we win, no one covers it; if we lose, it's a sign that we're old and overrated. Yawn.

As long as my team is wining, I could care less if no one else is noticing. This is really the truth in the end. I don't care 1/10000,0000,000,000 as much as winning a game....any game.

With the season we've had I feel blessed, not victimized. :toast

There is some merit to the victim syndrome. If Miami had clinched home court throughout the playoffs, it would be a dominant headline. I suppose it all depends on what you consider "fair." Since Miami has more fans than SA, one could argue that this is expected and therefore relatively fair. However, if you expect perfect equality of coverage across all teams, then no it isn't fair.

NBA.com had the Spurs beating Phoenix and clinching the West as one of their featured stories (the 6 main pictures) this morning, and also had a banner story about it as well. Both just linked to the game recap, but they did make note of it.

News changes.

Does this surprise you? IF so how long have you been a fan? I got numb to it or stopped reading on it years ago or watching ESPN etc. You will be better off without it, period.

So what. It's meaningless. The Spurs in current form will never sell to the masses that consume nba.com and ESPN. Leave the need for validation to OKC fans thirsting for a 4-0 regular season series win banner.

Reporting that the Spurs won is like reporting that water is wet. I believe some of it is this. Before 1999 we were not much more than bleep on their radar. After that we demanded their attention and the Spurs winning perhaps became redundant. I think if we go far in the Finals we will be much talked about, especially because of last year. It's a great story however ya spin it. :toast

Fuck NBA.com Being #1 in the regular season doesn't mean shit unless you make it to the Finals at the very least.
