He should in my opinion. He should be ahead of any Spur in either category.

I predict Parker will make it over Kawhi for All-NBA and Duncan over Kawhi for Defense.

Arguably Kawhi, Tiago, and Green are most deserving of Defensive honors.

I think Bill Simmons might be onto something.. he put Tony as the "token Spur" on the 3rd team... basically acknowledging he doesn't really deserve it, but that you gotta have a Spurs player in one of the teams due to the team's success this season.

The problem for Timmy is that he's not taken seriously anymore, IMO... even though he wasn't playing that great early in the season, I though the ASG shun was a clear signal.

Noah is likely going to win DPOY, which automatically puts him in one of the 3 teams, then the usual younger crop of talent will go in too: Love, Dwight, Aldrige, Davis, Hibbert, etc...

Stein did put Timmy on the 1st team though, so he might actually end up sneaking in...

All-defence is more about reputation that how well a guy actually performed. Kawhi has the reputation though, so he might make it. No chance he gets All-NBA though.

I think Timmy deserves All-NBA, and could make it at the center spot. I also think he has an outside shot at All-D again too.

Tim Duncan has played more games and more minutes than Tony Parker this season. In fact Duncan has played the most minutes of any Spur in the team. He still has the highest PER and the higher RPM (ESPN) and the highest IPV (Individual Player Value which considers data only for this season) in the team. He has the best defensive numbers for the Spurs team as well, although Tiago Splitter's is quite close as well, but the latter suffers from not having many "traditional stats" - blocks & steals - to back him.

Kevin Pelton got it right by claiming that Duncan must be an all-NBA player and could even be a first ballot player.

Splitter & Green should easily figure in the All Defense 2nd or 3rd teams as well. Their +/- impact is among the best in the league.

Kawhi's contribution peaked after the all star break but he should still threaten for the All NBA 3rd team spot.

Tony Parker played only on one end of the court for all the season. His defense was easily the worst for the Spurs rotation players. There is no way he should be considered for any individual award this season.

For the sixth man award the contenders should be legitimately be Ginobili or Gibson. Every advanced stat would point to Ginobili's direction, but I wouldn't be upset if Taj Gibson gets it instead of someone like Jamal Crawford. Gibson has been very impactful as a fourth quarter player for the resurgent Bulls and only because he plays more "Impact" minutes over Ginobili that I would take him for 6th Man.

The MIP award must be a lock for Goran Dragic. Dude showed the highest % increase in WS/48, PER and any of those advanced stats and almost singlehandedly lifted the unfancied Suns to the playoffs in a tough and very competitive West. The closest second should be Gerald Green who rapidly advanced his game to become a great perimeter player and the Morrises improved as well. Patty Mills should be in the conversation atleast.

• To wit: I have Kawhi Leonard as a guard on the second team. It was more difficult than usual this season to find four worthy guards. Some of the candidates, and especially the best point guard candidates, missed huge chunks of the season — Eric Bledsoe, Rajon Rondo, Patrick Beverley, Jrue Holiday, Chris Paul, Tony Allen, Avery Bradley, Thabo Sefolosha, etc. Mike Conley’s defense slipped a bit under a heavier offensive burden. Kyle Lowry has toned down the wildness and DeMar DeRozan has made huge strides, but neither is so good as to make me queasy about Leonard’s positioning here. Ditto for Klay Thompson, Wesley Matthews, and several other quality guards.

Leonard missed 16 games himself, nearly as many as Paul, but he has been sensational defensively when he has played — a rebounding and steals machine with gorgeous footwork. He’s nominally a small forward, but if the opponent’s best perimeter scorer is a shooting guard, Leonard will spend heavy minutes defending that guy while Danny Green (also a very good defender) slides up a position. The Spurs allow nearly five fewer points per 100 possessions with Leonard on the floor, per NBA.com. He’s in.

• Leonard benefits from playing with Tim Duncan, who remains a defensive genius even as his offensive game took a small but noticeable dip this season. He’s a monster rebounder, he never fouls (just ask him), and he moves almost in exact synchronization with the opposing offense. Some of his help rotations are just uncanny . . . .

He also recognizes that "There is a good chance the Spurs won’t place a single player on any of the three All-NBA teams," though he adds "there’s something to be said for some Spur, any Spur, appearing on an All-NBA team." He notes that "Duncan might be their best candidate for that honor, but the big man positions are ridiculously stacked, and Duncan got off to a slow start offensively. He also logged only 29 minutes per game, peanuts compared with other stars, though there are lots of broad issues swirling around the San Antonio playing-time numbers. They deserve representation somewhere, and the All-Defense may have to do."
