Options remain for Timberwolves

The Timberwolves are working hard behind the scenes to sign one or two more free agents to augment their offseason moves.

The Wolves are believed to be interested in a handful of restricted free agents. Among them are the Seattle trio of guard Ronald Murray and forwards Damien Wilkins and Reggie Evans, along with Los Angeles Clippers guard Marko Jaric.

Former Portland guard Derek Anderson is believed to be another target. He became an unrestricted free agent last week when he was waived in a cost-cutting move via the "amnesty" provision in the new labor agreement.

The Wolves also are interested in another restricted free agent, Sacramento wing Maurice Evans, his agent said.

In recent weeks, the Wolves agreed to free-agent contracts with forwards Mark Madsen, Eddie Griffin and Nikoloz Tskitishvili and undrafted rookie center Dwayne Jones. Their signings have not been officially announced, but that remains merely a matter of procedure.

"Our next job is to look at some free agents out there," Wolves owner Glen Taylor said Saturday. "I don't think we've honed it down to one person yet. Our guys are exploring a number of players. I don't know of any of them that are going to be done immediately."

Teams can retain their restricted free agents by matching contract offers from other teams.

Briefly: Wolves coach Dwane Casey said Jones and forward Ndudi Ebi both attended longtime NBA assistant coach Tim Grgurich's skills camp recently in Las Vegas. Rex Kalamian, who helped coach the Wolves' summer league team, assisted at the camp and worked with Ebi and Jones.

"Ndudi and Dwayne Jones both went and did a good job," Casey said. "That's what Ndudi needs. He needs to play. He's got a lot of raw talent. He needs to play in a team setting. That was a great situation for both of them."

• Casey has not decided whether to hold a voluntary minicamp later this month in Las Vegas. He has talked with his players about attending but said it's still up in the air.

• First-round draft pick Rashad McCants continues to rehabilitate his strained left hamstring that forced him to miss the summer league in mid-July. "It's coming along," Casey said.

There was some stories that the wolves had signed Wilkens and the Sonics wern't going to match but there were also stories later that said those reports were false.
