Daniel Athens, 23, has been ordered to spend 18 months in a state jail for urinating on the Alamo. He's also ordered to pay $4,000 in restitution to cover damage to the facade of the building.
State District Judge Ray Olivarri handed down the sentence in San Antonio Monday after Athens pleaded guilty to felony criminal mischief.
While Athens' plea deal capped his possible punishment at 18 months, the crime is usually punishable by up to two years in prison.
Athens' punishment is more than that of involuntary manslaughter, which typically carries a sentence of 10 to 16 months in prison. It's also more than the penalty for a first or second DWI conviction.
