It's really, REALLY suprising though. You just don't think of people like him as human in the sense that you never really think of them dying. They're just there giving you the news every single day and it takes a while for something like this to set in.

Wow thats amazing, didn't know he was that bad.

A true commie liberal, but a great voice and a great tv presence.

Truely a pioneer.

They said he had quit smoking in 1986 but had relapsed during 9-11........... sucks.

When is Barbara Walters going to die now?
she had her blood replaced with embalming fluid years ago.

I didn't know his cancer was that bad. They made it seem that he could recover from it. This is so sad. I liked watching him do the news :depressed :( :cry

It's sad, but he announced his cancer was pretty bad when he retired.

He was the only good one between he, Rather and Brokaw.

I guess they will all be pretty much linked to each other. Probably no group of broadcasters will again, based on the increase of cable news and the decrease in prominance of network news.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Jennings.

Whenever something happened in the world, it was your broadcast that I looked for to give me perspective and help me makes sense of it. Your grace, command of material, and when appropriate, wit on air in the most trying of times brought me and countless others reassurance and comfort. In an era of "whoever screams the loudest gets the ratings" journalism, you were dignity and class personified. As I grew up, you were part of my family's evening routine for years. And in the decade that I have been on my own, regardless of how many news channels would spring up on the cable box, you were still who I looked for first when I needed to know what was going on.

A heartfelt thank you from one of you many admirers. I can only hope my prayers for you and your family bring a fraction of the comfort you have brought to me and my family over the years.

OMG, I am still in shock. Every day since I can remember, once 6:30 hit, my Dad would be stationed in front of the TV tuned into ABC to watch the World News with Peter Jennings-I don't think he missed a day.

I also didn't realize how serious his cancer was, I thought he was getting treatment and coming back to ABC. I hadn't realized he had announced his retirement, as someone had previously mentioned. Haven't they still been calling it the "World News with Peter Jennings?"
