Should be a good one. Westbrook will be in tryhard mode to avenge his playoff absence last year. Memphis has the front court to give them problems and some scrappy Wings. Might be a surprisingly good series.

Problem is, when Memphis was at the peak of their powers a few years ago after beating the Spurs, they still got screwed over by the refs. Now they're nowhere near as good and OKC is better. OKC in 5.

The Thunder are like the black chick that you secretly covet. She may be a tad darker than the Vanessa Williams/Rhianna split you have ever said you'd buck down on. But, you still wonder if it is as wild as 2pac once said. You also get that servant feel and you can wild out with Westbrook. You can head to Drai's after hours and party with afterhours crowd in Vegas. You may need to max out on Hendogg and charge extra for the Molly but this is a fun bunch. If you get the poon then you best wrap it up tight because no one wants to catch a damn thing and furthermore, you would not want to be caught cheering for a team from Methlahoma. Memphis is the foreign chick with the hella bush you met @ freshman orientation. Bang it and say sayonara. Thunder in 6.

There have been plenty of these coaching segments that show some strategy being discussed. Heck, earlier in the Indy/Atlanta game Vogel discussed running Atlanta off the 3-point line and cutting down the turnovers. While not exactly high-level strategy, it shows more thoughtfulness than "increasing your effort and hustle".

So, what exactly did people see in Memphis that made them optimistic, tbh?..

They have no decent wing players, Z-Bo is on the decline, their bench is weak, etc..

Yeah, they can't score, and their defense is overrated. Horrible combination. The only player who's worth keeping on that team is Gasol. I like Conley, but he can't be a team's best guard.

yep, just like the mainstream media, nobody wants to overturn the gravy train.

plus NBA still sucks off OKC because they were able to use them to send a message to future non-compliant cities. Just hope Spurs and fans can overcome the bullshit, though least Spurs have HCA, otherwise the officiating would really be bad.

Good wing defenders that can't shoot or play any form of offense are completely useless as starting players, tbh..

Z-Bo is a good 3rd option at this point, he shouldn't be your #1 scoring threat, though..
I don't think Memphis is perfectly built :lol but zbo and Marc combining for 5-20 from the field and 4-11 from the stripe is going to guarantee a losing position no matter who their opponent is.

Aside from the scoring decrease missed field goals lead to quicker transition than made shots any day of the week. If those guys instead were a more typical 11-20 and 7 or 8/11 from the line it would be a much more interesting game

Sure, but they aren't BECAUSE their wings suck. Same reason why the Spurs reamed them. Their wings aren't a threat, which allows the Thunder to dig and rattle Memphis' bigs. It just doesn't make sense to build a team around two post-up bigs anymore, especially when they lack elite spot-up shooters. Sure, Memphis would be closer if their bigs played with they do against weaker competition. But I don't know what that's supposed to mean for their chances in this series.

I think it's easier to shut them down if the wings can help off their men and dig and play passing lanes. Even though Duncan and Splitter (and Diaw) put up a great fight against Memphis' bigs in the WCF, the smalls being able to disrupt ZBo's and Gasol's post-up attempts allowed the Spurs in win the battle inside. A similar thing happened in the first half. Allen and Conley getting going in the third is making a huge difference.

I thought both Gasol and ZBo dominated in the first half. They actually had 3/4 of the OKC bigs in foul trouble. They just missed makeable shots and freebies. The Spurs are much better suited to defend two "tank" bigs like Memphis.

OKC isn't anywhere near as well suited. But Memphis will also need outside scoring to stay in these games, and they don't have that.
