View Full Version : NBA: Indiana Pacers (#1) vs Atlanta Hawks (#8) Playoff Series Thread

I know it's only game 1 but damn, I really think if Indiana gets behind big in the 1st half, they are fucked. This team has been fading for a month and this shitty Hawks team without Horford might just help the Pacers complete the implosion.

Did you not watch the last time they played the hawks while at home? Got straight up bitch slapped and only scored 23 in the first half. This indy team is a fucking joke.

It's just sad because if the Pacers complete the epic choke job, the Heat will the easiest path to the Finals in NBA history. It would be easier than the Spurs in 2007.

lol bringing the spurs into this. The WC is never an easy path to the finals. A conference where the #1 seed is a complete fluke and horseshity...yea...thats an easy path.

Brooklyn Nets are the hardcore in the east now. They've won more games than any team except the Spurs in 2014 and their coach (Jason Kidd) knows how to beat the superfriends. Kidd's playoff record against the super friends: 1-0.

I thoroughly enjoy watching the Taken franchise. You only see the movie for two reasons:
1. Liam Neeson kicking everybody's asses
2. Maggie Grace
Both reasons are compelling enough to watch Taken. You don't need an Oscar-worthy screenwriting to appreciate a hard-hitting movie franchise like Taken.
Yeah sure it's not the best picture at any point in time but are they so bad for what their movie is offering -- pure action and shit being blown up?

If the Hawks win tonight, and i think they will, the Pacers will get swept.
This Hawks team isn't as bad as their record indicates, though they would be better with Horford. They have a great Coach, and Bud has all of his players bought in to the system.

The Pacers offense these last two months is honestly the worst I've seen from a team all season long tbh.
When you're 7'2 center is catching his post entry passes almost near the 3pt line, you need to start re-thinking your schemes/sets.

I say yes. A two game lead isn't insurmountable in this situation. Just depends on how galvanized the Pacers are, and how willing they are to truly come together IMO.

I like PG but he's nuts, Teague is too quick for him.... their real issue in stopping Teague has been soft-ass Hibbert being constantly out of position whenever Antic is on the floor, enabling Teague to get layup after layup inside....

This is also true, PG on JT is a stopgap solution. Either way, the Pacers are simply toasted next round :lol
This all the sudden became an interesting series. I'm buying into the whole "can the Pacer snap this historic/epic choke job" headline.
Not only is Atlanta pretty good, but a huge mismatch for Indiana with their stretch bigs, and Teague.
Vogel says he doesn't make adjustments, he makes teams adjust to them, well good luck Vogel. You'll be fishing early.
The Pacers are 2-14 in their last 16 trips to Atlanta, so this first round playoff matchup better head back to Atlanta 1-1, if Indiana wants a chance to avoid the most embarrassing collapse in NBA history.

I'm not saying he isn't great, but look at what Pop did with his limited resources (60+ wins) or the fact Carlisle was able to make the Mavericks match the Spurs despite not having one elite perimeter defender.

I'm not saying he isn't great, but look at what Pop did with his limited resources (60+ wins) or the fact Carlisle was able to make the Mavericks match the Spurs despite not having one elite perimeter defender.
Beating the Pacers at their lowest point isn't something completely out of the water. I just don't see how it makes Bud "By far the greatest coach in the playoffs".
Easy. By matter of elimination. IF Bud wins today, he's already doing a better job than pretty much every other coach(since noone would be 2-0) so far

Unless this game goes to double overtime and the nets beat toronto before this game finishes. But that is a stupid argument anyways considering most of the teams havent played a second game yet.

thus the keywords "so far"
and still let's say Toronto loses, Bud's job would still be above Kidd IMO since Toronto plays 2 of the worst players in the league in Derozan and De Colo.

http://espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2014/story/_/id/10827330/2014-nba-playoffs-frank-vogel-indiana-pacers-coaching-job
Honestly, Bird needs to be worried about his job. It's clear he really didn't build the roster he thinks he did. When you think about how much talent that team lacks (especially last season), it's amazing that they've done as well as they have. Vogel deserves criticism for not being able to establish an offense, but I don't think Bird should be the one making that call on that after he contributed to torpedoing the season as much as anybody has.
