The 2013 Finals was truly a terrific series. One of the few times in NBA history where a finals series really could have gone either way, "6" is the perfect indicator of that.
But personally, I'm not really apart of the "Lets win one more for Tim :cry" bandwagon. Mainly because well, Tim already has a shit load of rings. Anything more is pure luxury at this point. If we just so happen to hold the gold this June, I'd be absurdly happy/proud for/of the whole team.
I'm just glad the Spurs are still competitive, I'm glad that SA's Front Office has managed to put together quite the team despite the Big 3's major drop that most fans are oblivious of. I'm glad they're actually a favorite to come out of the West, something Duncan's rivals (Bryant, Garnett, Nowitzki, Nash, Carter, etc.) can't say at this point of their careers. In fact, all those players I listed either barely made the playoffs or missed them entirely.
To even have this opportunity, the chance to be a heavy favorite in the post season - is a blessing itself. Tired of all this "championship or bust" talk. This may be the Big 3's last post-season, enjoy every minute of it over whining about how bad you want the title.
.. This post was much longer than expected. Hey, the title of this thread pretty much summed it up :lol

I hope not. Manu could blow several finals in a row and his fans will still go on the warpath for him.

Big 3's drop??? TP had a damn near MVP level season last year, and Tim has had an incredible resurgence the past two years. The only one that's dropped in Manu and even he had spurts where he looked fantastic. He just can't sustain and derailed hard.

He should have more, though.
I'd be happy for the whole team, but I'd be happier for Tim than anyone else. He's still one of the hardest working players in the NBA even at his age. And his greatness should be celebrated once more before he retires, in a nationally-visible form.

Anytime, and I mean anytime the role players (most notably Green and Splitter) are taken out of the game via defensive tatics - it's up to the Big 3 to take the load.. and that is when they show their true colors. This is also usually when Parker plays "heroball", Manu shape-shifts into "Turnobili", and Duncan.. well.. no one says anything bad about Duncan.
Back to I was saying, Parker benefits most from this. All those shooters SA has allows him to go one-on-one, but as soon as the role players start missing their shots/teams start putting a lot of pressure on him - Parker usually crumbles.
Duncan also gets a lot of his point opportunities from the system. You can always catch him getting points from either spot-up jumpers or open layups. He still has a post move of course, he's just not as good of a shot-creator as he use to be. Though bare in mind, he is 38.
With that said, a drop is still a drop. I'd be willing to be money that this team without the Big 3 would be able to win more regular season games than having the Big 3 with bad role players. I specify regular season because lets face it, either team would lose in the first round of the playoffs.
Now bare in mind, one can say "PARKER/MANU/DUNCAN WILL HAVE BIGGER SCORING NIGHTS IN THE PLAYOFFS" and this is indeed true. But at the same time, imagine all the big nights Green/Leonard/Splitter will have defensively? Those will be nearly if not just as important as one of the Big 3 going for 25+.
Though, Duncan was a monster last year in the WCF-Finals. I call it when I see it, and he was the best Spurs player past May 20th.
But that's the wonderful thing about this team. They help the Big 3 play in their comfort zone, they have role players who can contain superstars and make big shots, and they have a mastermind coaching on the bench. I can only hope it all comes together at an all-time-high within the next 3 months.

Did you see Splitter shit the bed in the Finals? Splitter as a role player has not proven a tenth of the value of tosb SJax two years ago...
Boris, Kawhi and Green are the ones truly needed, probably in that order too, Tiago doesn't belong in the conversation... He was hacked successfully 2 years ago, he was useless and the worst player of the Finals last year...
The main problem with a big 3 less team us that you don't have any playmaker, saying it'd do as well is absurd. Look when Patty is relied upon he takes 30+ shots, that wouldn't fly for long... The big 3 problem is defense and athleticism, which is why Beli is not an upgrade at all over Neal as we're seeing...

Fair take. Boris for some reason passed my mind, the dude is way more valuable than Splitter. I was just thinking of Splitter's terrific defense on Randolph at the time.
Agree on the lack of defense and athleticism. The Big 3 were much more athletic when they were younger, as well as better defenders. Now that they're older they've taken a decent drop off, but thankfully Green/Boris/Kawhi all play great defense/and many other aspects which takes pressure off the Big 3.. thus letting them perform more efficiently.
I'm just saying, the role players the Spurs have right now are probably the best role players they've had in the past 15 years.
