Hug it out, Laker fans... Mediocrity is your friend.

D'Antoni is the best possible coach for a team with terrible talent, tbh..

The Lakers have one of the 3 worst rosters in the league at the moment, and it could even be the absolute worst next year, so it makes sense to employ a coach that at least makes those shitty players a little more entertaining and interesting..

^sadly true
D'antoni's 'fun and gun no defense gimmicky' system is perfect for a team full of D-leaguers. Kobe can teach all the guards how to shoot contested fadeaways, while he rides the bench sucking the franchise dry with his bloated contract.

I kindly disagree with you guys. Inferring from what I know about soccer games, shitty teams need defense more than anything else because it's always more difficult to score yourself than to prevent the opponents scoring. I'm rather new to basketball games but I think the basic principles are similar. If you only have a handful of scrubs and still play an adventurous attractive style of game, chance is you'd get nastily fucked (like the 48pt game vs. monkeyball this season).

During conversations with the Los Angeles Lakers over the past 10 days, embattled coach Mike D'Antoni has asked them to pick up the team option on the fourth year of his current contract, sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN.com.

The motivation for D'Antoni's request is rooted in his desire for the authority to coach and ensure he won't enter next season as a lame duck whose job security is undermined by constant speculation about his future, the sources said.

The Lakers and D'Antoni have yet to formally meet since exit meetings after the season, and sources insist no formal decision on his future has been made.

The Orange County Register reported late Friday night on its website that the Lakers had decided to retain D'Antoni for next season, noting that he has yet to be informed of the club's decision.

D'Antoni has grown frustrated with the pace of the process, believing each day that his status remains unresolved further hampers his ability to successfully perform the job next season, if he is retained.

D'Antoni is under contract for one more season at $4 million. The Lakers hold a $4 million team option on him for 2015-16.

Los Angeles went 27-55 this season, its first full campaign under D'Antoni. The Lakers posted the second-worst winning percentage (.329) in team history, the worst 82-game record in team history and their lowest win total since the franchise relocated from Minnesota.

D'Antoni, 62, has posted a 67-87 record since being hired by the Lakers early in the 2012-13 season to replace Mike Brown.

if we keep him we're throwing the towel in for next season...and focusing everything on 2015. I don't blame them..Kobe will have to wait it out...they paid him his money so he's just gonna have to be mad....they're going after 2 big names in 2015 and possibly even durant in 2016. Kobe can re-up in 2016 for peanuts if he wants that 6th ring but unless they're trying to get both Melo and Love now Dantoni needs to go if not he should stay...

What possible incentive is there for the Lakers to pick up that option now? The team is going to suck next year whether D'Antoni is a lame duck or not.

Mike is one of the worst rookie developers in the league. He often will not play a rookie, even a good one.

He's not gonna give a shit next season knowing he's on his way out....it was a bad decision when I really think about it....It also signals for good or bad they have no interest in Gasol or Melo....Fredo is worse than I thought....and Cupcake seems to be nothing but a yes man at this point....where's my Spurs hat :downspin: jk ;-)

He doesn't have any other choice. Management will tell him to play their new draft pick. He'll comply. It's the only thing Laker fans have to look forward to. Exum just existing in D'Antoni's system'll get him the stats for ROY unless Kobe fucks things up.

Besides, what are his other options? TOSB Steve Nash? Kendall Marshall if the Lakers pick up the option? He might not have enough healthy players to pick and choose who he wants to play.

The way the "weird" seems to happen in the WWFNBA, Lakers probably get a 1st overall.
