View Full Version : Should Manu have held the ball for a 24 second violation and played overtime instead?

Seems like a better strategy. Forget the quality of the shot, get it to overtime as a first priority, if you want to heave a 3 with 0.5 seconds left and let time expire during the shot, then so be it.

If you're the better team, you should always want to play longer instead of letting the game come down to flukes.

When you have opportunity to score do it.

We lost the game when we coulndt stop Dallas all game. 1 play did not lose the game for us. Trading baskets with Dallas is a recipe fo disaster. We are going to lose or win this series purely on the Defensive end

I hate when people say that. One play is the difference between winning and losing. no team is going to play perfect, and games come down to one play.

That being said, Vince traveled and the shot clock started late. :/

No. Manu should have left less time on the clock though.

A missed FT here or there. Or maybe stop with the Ole defense and foul someone going to the rack!

And that one play was at 100-97. Spurs had the ball. Manu bricks with 15 on the clock at 1:45. Dallas goes the other way. Four-point swing plus time left for Dallas at the end. We get two there we are up by five instead of one. Game over.

Manu has no discipline and his three ball sux. He can score a hundred, yet he will still find a way to blow it doing something dumb.

There was no way he would make that three. He should have passed it.

And nice back court toss to the invisible man, too. Wtf?

But you just can't time that stuff perfectly.

Manu is shooting 50% from three in this series. His three doesn't suck. :lol

His shot wasn't falling tonight for the most part, but at least he created plays for others and only committed two turnovers. An average game, at best, but not responsible for us losing the game.

That's why it was so important for Ellis to get the basket immediately to leave the shot clock on. That was a great playcall.

Manu is the ultimate double-edged sword; we will win because of him or we will lose because of him.

His three is either off the front, a miss, or a lucky bounce to go in. As the game goes on his shot gets worse. He missed two threes in a row badly. No business taking those, especially the one I cited above.

Time matters. A shot clock violation on the possession at 1:45 is better than the three point brick. Always. Every time.

Manu shouldn't even be on the team after last years Finals,,,,but we re-sign him for 7+ mil/yr. Classic.

Monta is killing us right now but, no doubt, he will play like absolute dogshit against the Rockets or Blazers.

The first thing I said to myself after the Manu layup was he left them 1.7 seconds. I felt it would kill us, and it did. On the road, in a very important Game 3 with the series tied, Manu should have taken a buzzer beater only. I agree with the OP that no time should have been left on the clock.
