I don't have a link (and I'm not even sure if it deserves a thread), but I wanted to let you all know that Ron Boone just reported on a local station (KFAN) that Devin Brown is visiting Utah today to talk to Jazz management about maybe joining the team. That's all he reported. I'll try to find a link later today, but it could be a possibility since Devin is originally from Salt Lake City.

I wonder where else Devin will visit. I'm guessing Denver -- maybe Seattle.

yeah, I'd say Denver.... hadn't thought about him visiting Seattle tho...

If he does go to another team (crossing fingers that he won't) I'd hope it be to a quality team that will give him some good minutes.

Unforunately it's the not-so quality teams that can give him good minutes.
Good luck to him, whatever happens.

well i'm also thinking quality in terms of management and coaching.. and the teams overall attitude....
but your right.
I just try to hope the best for him. maybe it's because he's a hometown guy.. but i get all warm and fuzzy over him......

Well that's true. The Jazz organization is run pretty well, so it might be a good fit for him. Also, He was born in Salt Lake so maybe they'll embrace him.

Devin Brown can go. I am sure we could find someone to replace him. He is just doing this to put pressure on San Antonio.

No, he's doing it to find a job. The Spurs haven't made him an offer.

Not right this time, Kori.

The Spurs have tendered Brown a qualifying offer, around $900,000, in order to retain their right of first refusal on any offer sheet he signs.

Is a qualifying offer a contract offer? I thought it was only to retain the right to match. I didn't think it was an offer that he could accept as a contract. I don't know much about Q.O.'s.

... Never mind .. LJ explained Q.O. me.

It's going to suck when Devin gets a three-year, $8M offer and the Spurs let him walk.

I think Devin is gone no matter what. So I don't know if a jinx will hurt the situation. It just doesn't seem that the Spurs have much interest in keeping him. I wonder who they plan on getting as a backup swingman. I hope not Finley. I want someone younger.

Would you want Devin if it meant no long SF? Spurs aren't going over $61.7.

I think Devin is another victim of the Spurs luxury tax phobia.

What makes you think they don't want to keep him, his size or back? I think they want to see what other teams will offer him. I think they want to keep him, he's the closest thing to Bruce than anyone else.

Getting an offer from Utah would be nice for two reasons.

1) It's a good situation for him and the fans will absolutely love him.

2) They won't overpay for him, so there is a slight chance the Spurs could match.

timvp

3) It's where he was born and still has family, so he'd still be the hometown kid done good.

4) We wouldn't ever have to worry about getting beaten by the "one that got away" :lol

three-year, $8M

He can go ahead and leave for that money.

3 years 8 million for a decent bench guard???

No thanks.

Because they are waiting to see what someone else offers. They'll decide whether to match or say "Bye-bye". My guess is the Spurs are calling SAR to see if he's interested. Better to put $$ in him rather than DB at this time.

I agree that the Spurs are waiting to see if he gets other offers. But you said that Devin was doing it to pressure the Spurs. He's actually doing it to get a contract somewhere with good money and playing time.

Luxury tax.

If that is the case I would think Spree is out of the running unless it's December and he still doesn't have a contract and finally takes a vet minimum.

No team is gonna be stupid enough to give him a 3 year 8 million dollar deal, if ther eis, then they can have him.

Devin wants playing time and a contract. The Spurs don't have either.

Thanks to Rasho's contract, you can say good bye.

I have a bad feeling that a Devin Brown for Jarron Collins trade is in the works. The Spurs will use Collins as a fifth big man and he'll fit in with the "character" of the team. The Jazz don't need him much anymore because they got 'Tag back.

Most importantly, Collins has one year left on his contract.

Great.

I would love to see homeboy get another title in Silver & Black but...
this could be a nice career move financially for Devin.

Are the Spurs convinced his back is solid, now, or is this another loss of trust by the Spurs healthwise, a la Charles Spider Smith?

I can't wait to see the Spurs justify this latest display of miserliness. Will it be because of the luxury tax? Maybe the Spurs will play the small market card? How about Holt Cat saying 'darn it, we just couldn't move enough tractors'?

Meanwhile they take the arena deal and the lux tax rebates to the bank.

Brent Barry got 4 years and $20 million to be a decent bench guard.

Brent Barry got 4 years and $20 million to be a decent bench guard.Well, there's another card to play then -- how much should your fifth guard make?

Marcus Bryant
08-10-2005, 11:10 AM
Why give up a guard as good as DBrown over 3 years and < $10 mil?

ChumpDumper
08-10-2005, 11:14 AM
So $3 million a year is the going rate for fifth guards these days?

It makes sense to pay that and any resulting taxes if he's going to be a regular rotation player -- is Devin going to be that?

The scuttlebutt on SR was the Spurs were trying to S&T him to Charlotte for Ely, so who knows what's actually happening.
