Wow, you're actually optimistic for once? :lol

I am upset that we didn't get a Fisher shot to work for us, but, shit man, we had them terrified in the last minute. I saw some good stuff from Green, Patty, and Parker tonight that makes me at least positive that we'll bring it for game 7.

Yup, role players outside of Belli are playing much better.

Hopefully Green gets more minutes and Ginobili plays a little better at home.

The truth is Pop has been out coached and the reason why it hasn't been so glaring save for Game 2 is the fact that Dallas has a mediocre bench and role players who have been elevated through coaching. Carlisle has put them in the perfect position to be successful but let's not give Dallas the entire credit because the Spurs have played some uninspired ball.

It has taken them to be pushed the the brink in various games for individual players to step up. For whatever momentum we gather and for whatever team ball we play something happens, either rotations change or foul trouble that creates some kind of vortex for us to go on scoring droughts and the inevitable one on one playing that causes stagnant offense The Spurs have fucked themselves, tonight it was a shitty game from Manu and of course Pop being out coached again.

Honestly there needs to be a players meeting and players only tomorrow that rights the ship because Sunday afternoon these guys could be fishing and that's just sad as hell.

so sad but true. before all I could think about was getting back to the Finals and righting the wrongs, now it's just hoping not to lose in the first, which would be a brutal kick in the face. not sure what the fuck is wrong with this team, other than Pop holding onto the big 3 way past the expiration date. The fact that Green was halfway useful offensively today means to me that Pop needs to shorten his rotations for game 7. Bellineli shouldn't see the floor except for an offensive possession or two at the end of quarters. 8 deep for the game (starters, Patty, Manu and Boris). Probably too late but don't mind CoJo to get Calderon or Harris out of whack over Marco seeing the court. He'll have use next series should we make it against Portland's worse bench.

Why are the minutes such an issue for the Spurs alone when the Mavs have Dirk, Carter, and Marion who are all over 35 years old and been in the league for 14 or 15 years. Even Jose, Harris, and Dalembert are in their 30's.

It is sad, but I wouldn't say true just yet. Also, I don't think anything is necessarily wrong with the Spurs, I think it's just a testament to how this first round has been to practically every team/series so far. The Mavs/Spurs are still a damn good rivalry, and it's unfortunate it looks like the Mavs have a little more in the tank, but I think Spurs will win Sunday and as Mugen said, hopefully get to to the WCF. I think the Spurs have enough to win Game 7, even if it's a tight one. My concern going forward, should they advance, is Pop. I've always trusted the dude to make intelligent choices but he's let Carlisle dictate the matchups all series long. Would he snap out of it against Portland? Is he keeping his cards close to the chest for later in the playoffs? Deliberately letting this series drag to expose role players to more playoff pressure?

this team is good enough to waltz into the WCF. A part of me wants to think he's saving the real deal for a potential series against OKC but he's playing with fire doing it.

I thought the Spurs looked better against Portland this season than they did against Houston, tbh. Harden didn't play well in the first round but he's always been a Spurs killer. They were going to have their hands full either way but I prefer Portland's inexperience to Houston's squad of playoff players that ate the Spurs alive this season.

The Spurs don't usually face elimination very early, and they have rarely won when they do.

2011 First Round, Game 5 vs Memphis
2008 West Semis, Game 6 vs New Orleans
2008 West Semis, Game 7 vs New Orleans
2005 NBA Finals, Game 7 vs Detroit

Aside from those four games, the Spurs have either not been in an elimination situation at all or they lost. I only went back to the 1999 title run, since I figured we'd keep things in the Duncan era.

That young and inexperienced teams has an all-star duo that just outplayed the Rockets all-star duo. If we're struggling to get past a team with no all-stars how much tougher will a team with 2 all-stars be? Lillard and Aldridge will have a field day against the Spurs.

Rev Hill
05-03-2014, 05:55 PM
Am I just an old dude and don't know the current palming/carrying the ball rule, or does Ellis carry the ball every time?? Easy to freeze your defender when your allowed to do that. Along w getting a call basically any time he drives to the hole, he is being treated like he is Jordan. Take this away and I think the Spurs are fine but his ability to carry the ball is breaking down our defense big time.

The term "all star" means nothing, Dallas has gotten outstanding play from Ellis, Calderon, and Carter pretty much all series. In four regular season games against SA, the Blazers only got 25 or more points out of Aldridge once in 3 games, and got 30 or more out of Lillard once. In four games against Houston, the Spurs got torched by Harden, and suffered from solid contributions from Beverly, Parsons, and Howard.

You're asking me to pick my poison, because both teams offered obstacles that the Spurs could struggle with. Harden has pretty much never had a bad game against the Spurs, and Howard presents a size issue that is compounded by the fact that unlike LA, the Rockets have surrounded him with shooters.

Portland's offense is built almost entirely on Lillard and Aldridge. Matthews tends to chip in solidly as well, so you have 3 potential problems there - except all 3 are shooters. Forcing Portland to be a jumpshooting team and carving up their defense on the other end sounds like a better option to me than dealing with the Rockets, who never failed to give the Spurs fits. Let Aldridge erupt for 40 - if he's the only one doing it, and he's doing it from long range, so be it. Lock down elsewhere and cut off his other resources.

Neither series would be easy, but Portland doesn't offer the same size problems and they lack a profound amount of playoff experience that could hurt them against a more savvy team. Houston is not the opponent to make Portland look weak.

I'm scared of Aldridge and Lillard too, but the Mavs are a scary group because they have guys who have won before or have enough playoff experience to put up a fight. That is why we are going 7 games.

All the Spurs have to do to win is not let Mavs control the offensive glass
bad offensive rebounding team that isnt athletic is abusing Spurs off 2nd chance points
in every game theyve won theyve taken way more shots then the Spurs

and its usually scrubs like Dalembert/Blair who are doing most of the work
both of which are Duncan's guys so they shouldnt be doing it

Hopefully, Rick has played all his cards in this series and Pop has a counterpunch left in him tbh.

Game 7s tend to be lower scoring which would play into the Spurs hands as they have gotten better shots this series so far.

Our team just isn't built to properly deliver that "counter punch." Carlisle's decision to "switch everything" and force (usually) Tony or Tim into 1 on 1 play has been working pretty well so far.

remember when blair played for the spurs and he got posted up every time while he was in? and groaning every time the jumper splashes with blair flailing to leap and defend against the shot or just plain getting sized up and worked without a chance to even cover the play?

spurs should know best how to get those same 10-2 runs when blair checks in, they paid for that when he played for them.

2008 West Semis, Game 7 vs New Orleans

That game was epic. Was stuck over in Rockford, IL for an evening work event, but ended up playing the sick card, ran back to the hotel room (via a gas station to get beer) and got to see most of the game.

Spurs have a shot if Tony Parker decides he wants to play an entire game of good basketball. None of that "miss 15 shots and start hitting in the 4th quarter" bullshit is going to work tonight. Duncan/Leonard need to be aggressive on the glass too. Keep Marco's ass glued to the bench and Spurs should be fine.

I hate that we're even in this position. The Mavs would get absolutely destroyed in the next round. Scrubs playing like all time greats against us. :pctoss

I agree with Rob on the Mavericks. I would have thought the Spurs would blow the Mavericks out at least one game before now. Hopefully today they can really roll and get a big win without suspense and the Mavs have an off day shooting.

I'll take a win even if it's close, though.

You forgot the 2006 series against Dallas, they had game 5 infact as an elimination game at home because they were down 3-1 quickly.

Indeed I did, and that means I also forgot Game 6 of that same series, the Spurs playing in Dallas down 3-2 and winning to force Game 7.

Now the Spurs find themselves with an early gut check on this climb to the Finals.
