" Commissioner Bob Bowlsby confirmed that the Big 12 has joined with the ACC to petition the NCAA to deregulate rules governing conference champions and particularly football title games.Current rules mandate that a conference must have 12 members to conduct a title game. Bowlsby said there are no plans for the 10-school Big 12 to resurrect its title game."

The title of the article/blog is misleading.........but I think it only makes sense as to why Bowlsby is petitioning.

I hate conference title games, but the $ is too much for these conferences to turn down.

That extra game would do wonders for SOS as it would give the Big 12 that last end of year quality win to boost them into a playoff spot.

or it could upset an undefeated big 12 team and knock them out of the playoffs. I think its best not having one.
An undefeated big 12 team that beat every conference team will most likely always get a spot in the playoffs and has more cred than a sec team that rolls a weak schedule where they only play 1-2 above average teams, imo.

Agreed.

but UT, Tech, A&M etc will have moved to the Super 80 Conference by then.

Why don't the Big-12 and Big-10 trade conference names?

Why don't the Big-12 and Big-10 trade conference names?

You do realize the Big Ten will have 14 teams come July 1 when Rutgers and Maryland join.

I guess they could switch names until then.

news still getting to you slow in de west coast?

The answer I've seen so far is TV market, but that's still a terrible reason to add them imo

Pretty much a money grab for the B1G, but does open up some recruiting avenues.

Neither Rutgers or Maryland bring anything to the table besides eyes and cable subscriptions, which has been a key part of conference realignment.
