Mavs Could Be Interested In Trade For Tyson Chandler May 06, 2014 1:28 PM EDT

The Dallas Mavericks may be interested in trading for Tyson Chandler if the New York Knicks make him available.
The Mavericks' decision to let Chandler walk in free agency in 2011 after their title win has been one of the most controversial decisions of Mark Cuban's tenure as owner. The Mavericks were pessimistic about how Chandler would age during the contract, while also wanting to preserve their cap space for a run at Dwight Howard and either Chris Paul or Deron Williams.

Chandler's turned into a soft statpadder who's constantly out of position on defense in New York, and more to the point, Cuban's trying to correct his biggest mistake when the damage has already long since been done....

He's better than what they have now. Plus there are no bad players in the NBA, just bad fits. Monta Ellis was more effective in Dallas than he ever was in Golden State and Milwaukee. Not saying Big Daddy Tyson is as good as he was in 2011, but he's an upgrade over the shit they've run out at C since he left.

I actually like the move if he can get Chandler cheap enough to be able to sign Deng or Ariza. The Mavs wouldn't have near the same defense they did in 2011, but they'd be much better than they were this year, and Tyson at least was an awesome PnR center, which fits right in with their current offense. And it's not like he was awful on defense last year. His 102 DRtg is pretty good, considering how bad the Knicks were by that same metric.
So long as Dallas isn't giving up more than a token sweetener, I think it's fine.

If you're on an NBA roster you are roughly one of the top 450 players in the world.

I see your point. this is true. Ayres would probably dominate a YMCA league or even a minor euro league.

Errors in top 450 players in the world. :lmao If he'd be paying agains blind guys without arms and legs then yes.
And if you're on the NBA roster doesn't mean you're in the 450 best list. There are at least 150 players outside the NBA that would be better than some of the NBA scrubs or some role players.

Then there's that video of slow, unathletic, stiff white Scalabrine playing normal guys at the gym and breaking them down off the dribble and looking like prime Webber compared to average rec center players.

There is not 150 guys in the Euro League and elsewhere that deserve to be on an NBA roster. Maybe 30-40 guys at most. There's 360 guys on an active NBA roster.

Am I one of the ones that thinks that Chandler was overrated on that 2011 team? I think they could've inserted almost any center on that team and still won. Cuban letting him go wasn't really a big deal.

Yeah I'm sure Erick Dampier could've led that defense.
I think so, Damp was a top 3 center for many years when he was with Dallas. Tyson and Dampier were basically a wash IMHO.

Yep don't forget Haywood. He allowed for Chandler to get in foul trouble and not lose too much.

We amnestied Haywood, nigga, so we're not allowed to sign him back for as long as his previous contract lasts. We re-signed him to a 5yr deal in 2010 if I remember correct, which means we can't get him back before 2015 imho.
